Delaware River Report / Conditions Mid March 2019
The release from Cannonsville has been cut back and the West Branch is wadeable for the first time since August. Overall we’ve had a pretty mild Winter with no real hard freeze like we’ve seen the last few years. March can be a funny weather month so we’ll still likely see some cold days and maybe a little more snow before Spring. The high Winter release from Cannonsville has kept the West Branch water temps warmer than most years. Usually when that happens the fish come through fat and happy from eating all winter long. We’ve seen some stoneflies hatching mixed with a few olives and little black caddis. There have been occasional dry fly shots but streamers and nymphs will offer you the best chance at catching fish right now.

Winterdale Road finally opened this morning after a long construction project! No more dirt road detours.

Delaware River Report / Conditions October 31, 2018
October 31st is traditionally our last update of the year. We will have sporadic updates over the winter and will put one up if river conditions change dramatically and people are still fishing. Click on the gauge links below to get the latest flows. Otherwise we will start again on April 1st. Today should be one of the nicest days we’ve seen in a while. The air temp should hit 58 degrees with winds around 10 mph from the South. It looks like quite a bit of rain in the forecast for Thursday an Friday. Hopefully the storms track away from us.

Yesterday’s rain didn’t do too much to the river flows. We are starting off this morning just about where we did yesterday. The Beaverkill / Willowemoc are your best bets for wading. Check the current NYS regs for open sections. Streamers are your best bet still but you may see some olives and caddis so bring a dry fly rod with you. We should see a little more sun today with the air temp hitting the high 40’s. No additional rain in the forecast until tomorrow night. The wind will be around 10 mph from the North.
The Upper West Branch from Cannonsville Dam to Monument is closed. The East Branch from Pepacton Dam to Shinhopple Bridge is also closed.

Delaware River Report / Conditions October 29, 2018
We have some light rain falling this morning but the river flows are still slowly dropping throughout the system. If you are wading, the Beaverkill / Willowemoc offer the best opportunities. Check the NYS regs for closed areas. The West Branch is still off color from the 1,500 cfs release from Cannonsville. It looks good for streamers this morning with the color and cloud cover. The lower East and Main Stem should be in good shape. If the olives hatch it should happen mid afternoon during the warmest part of the day. Concentrate on the slower sections where the fish can set up to eat off the surface. We’ll warm up over the next couple of days with Wednesday peaking just below 60 degrees.

Delaware River Report / Conditions October 28, 2018
The rivers are up this morning. Yesterday’s rain was just a steady one- not really heavy at any one time but lasted most of the day. We had a break but the rain that came overnight bumped the rivers back up and most of them are just peaking or beginning to fall now. We should keep the cloud cover but be dry for most of the day. We may get some rain but that shouldn’t happen until after dark – maybe another 1/4″ coming tonight. It looks like a streamer day today.

Delaware River Report / Conditions October 27, 2018
We have some light rain coming down this morning but that should pick up as the day goes on. We should see around .75″ today with a little less than .25″ coming overnight. Some of the higher elevations may see a bit of snow or ice but we should be fine along the river with the air temp staying in the high 30’s. The rain will likely bring the river flows up below the feeder streams so keep that in mind if you are out there. Streamers will likely be your best bet today. Vary the retrieve and pattern until you start hitting fish. The West Branch is still coming out of Cannonsville off color. The other rivers are starting clear but may color up from the rain by mid afternoon. Bring some olives and caddis patterns just in case but concentrate on the streamers.

Delaware River Report / Conditions October 26, 2018
We’re starting off a little cold this morning but we should warm up to 45 degrees by mid afternoon. We’ll have sun for most of the day with light winds. A front will move in overnight bringing 1/4″ of rain. That shouldn’t happen until after dark. We’re in for more rain tomorrow but the amount in the forecast has been changing. The West Branch is still coming out of Cannonsville at 1,500 cfs and off color. It’s probably the best place to throw streamers. The lower East Branch and Mainstem will be clearer and look better for small olives and caddis fishing. Keep an eye on the long, slow tailouts for your best shot. If you’re wading concentrate on the Beaverkill and Willowemoc.

We have cloud cover and a little wind this morning. Looking at the hourly forecast the wind should stay 10 mph or below out of the North. We’ll be a little cooler today with the air temp peaking around 40 degrees. The West Branch is still coming out of Cannonsville at 1,500 cfs and off color. It looks like the best bet for streamer fishing. We are seeing olives and caddis out there. The East Branch and Mainstem are your best bets for dry fly fishing or nymphing. It looks like the weather warms up again over the weekend. We do have some rain in the forecast but the amount predicted seems to be changing daily.

Yesterday was a pleasant one on the water. We had a bit of rain and the wind was bad when the front came in but that didn’t last too long. We should have sunshine today with a high of 44 degrees. The wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the North. For dry fly fishing concentrate on the lower East Branch or Mainstem. The West Branch is still coming out of Cannonsville off color and looks good for streamers this morning. There are enough leaves left on the trees that it’s possible to get out of the wind. The best wade options are the Willowemoc and Beaverkill.
Keep in mind the Upper West Branch from Cannonsville Dam to Monument is closed. The East Branch from Pepacton Dam to Shinopple Bridge is also closed.

Today looks like a good day to be on the water. We should see an air temp of 53 degrees, a light rain in the afternoon, and wind from the south 5 – 10 mph. The rain should only amount to .14″ so we shouldn’t get too wet but should have good cloud cover all afternoon. Streamers in the morning but it does look like a good olive day. Watch the slow tailouts and edges in the afternoon.
