The Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Report 10/7/10
The West Branch looks to be in great shape! Flows are about perfect for both wade and drift boat fishing right now and the temperatures are very favorable. Olives have produced some decent surface activity and some fishing action, particularly on the upper sections of the West Branch. Today may be a little windy, but should be a nice day; and for the next two, calm and sunny. Look for the insect activity to pick up over the next few days…

Flows, water temperatures, and clarity have improved greatly on the West Branch and things are looking great for the rest of the week. Streamers will likely produce some decent action and there is a good chance of having Olives stirring up a little surface activity as well. The East Branch is still relatively high yet, and is probably the most off-color of the rivers, but those conditions may be suitable for streamer fishing. With decent flows coming from both the East and West branches, the Main Stem is running rather high and will be difficult to wade, but streamer fishing from a drift boat may provide some decent opportunities.

Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Report 10/5/2010
Flows are slightly higher than they were yesterday due to showers that we had on and off all day yesterday. Hale Eddy is flowing at 1570 cfs this morning while the East Branch at Fishs Eddy is 2750 cfs this morning. Water Temperatures are looking very consistent across the boards this morning with all three rivers between 52º and 55º Fahrenheit. With most of the water coming down the West Branch being rain runoff, the river is clearer than it had been last week when we were getting “turned over” release from the reservoir. Today we are expecting a high of around 54º with a light rain throughout most of the day. The forecast for the next three days is showing more rain with highs in the low to mid 60’s.

Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Report: October 4, 2010
Today is going to be chilly rainy day with a high of around 50. River Flows are once again looking good on the entire river system with the West flowing 538 cfs at Hale Eddy, the East Branch pushing down 1980 cfs at Fishs Eddy and the Main Stem starting at 3450 cfs in Lordville. Today and for the next few days, natural color streamers will probably be the most productive means of catching, however keep your eyes open for fish feeding on tiny BWO’s and caddis if you see any on the water.

Today it looks like we are going to have mostly sunny skies with a high around 60 degrees. The West Branch is down to 785 cfs this morning after the heavy rains that we received Thursday and is at a wade-able level throughout most of the river. The East Branch has also come back down but is probably still too high to attempt to wade unless you are on the very upper stretches. Streamers would likely be the best option for today but there is always a chance of decent surface action on BWO’s and Caddis.

The Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Report 10/2/10
Here we are, a couple days after those heavy rains and the initial flooding, and the rivers have already dropped dramatically. The West Branch in particular, is currently back to a great flow and is very fishable. We recommend that you keep an eye on the water levels throughout the day if you are floating any section of this river, for the release from the reservoir is very minimal and the excess run-off from the big rains has been receding quite rapidly. Temperatures are back to being very favorable across most of the system and we are optimistic that the conditions the next couple of days will at least have the West Branch fishing again as the East Branch and Main Stem continue to recover from the “blow-out.”

The Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Repert 9/30/10
This heavy rain looks like it will be going nonstop for the entire day and into tomorrow morning. A rain like this will certainly affect the river to some extent, and really, in a sense, has come to the rescue. Dramatically low water levels due to poor releases and the lack of rain this year have allowed the river system to heat up considerably over the past week. Luckily, this rain and the following week should allow the system to recover nicely and will hopefully recharge the fishing action. For today, streamers will likely be the best option; good luck and stay dry!

Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Report 9/29/2010
Today they are calling for mostly cloudy skies and a high of 71º. River levels are still low due to the release from Cannonsville Reservoir which is still 114 cfs. Water temperatures are still looking good the entire length of the West Branch, East Branch, and Main Stem. With these low water levels wading is going to be your best option, try nymphing faster moving water while keeping an eye out for targets feeding on olives or caddis.

There are overcast skies this morning with a faint rain for now. Sporadic thunderstorms are possible throughout the day with the rain picking up by the afternoon. The rivers are no longer accessible by drift boat for now with the diminutive releases they are letting out currently, but lower levels are providing many more wading opportunities. Yesterday small Olives had some fish up and rising and we suspect there will be more of the same on a day like today.

The Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Report 9/27/10
Weather wise, the next couple of days should have good fishing conditions. We will get some rain today and then have some thunderstorms rolling in tomorrow, with moderate air temperatures. It will be interesting to see how the river fishes, for it has dropped pretty substantially with today’s “cut-back” in the release, which has the river at a level where you can no longer float it in a drift boat. Water temperatures are relatively decent and the visibility remains limited on the West Branch and Main Stem. Keep an eye on the flow and temperature gauges because there has been major fluctuations in the releases as of late.

Today is supposed to be mostly cloudy with a high of 68 degrees. Although air temperatures are moderately warm today, it is still a nice break from the bright, sunny, 80 plus degree temperatures that we have had for the past two days. Water temperatures should start to drop and reach more favorable levels again throughout the system over this coming week. Caddis have been the most active during the mid-day hours, then Olives and Isonychia spinners have been showing up later in the evening. The fishing should pick back up as the temperatures decline into the mid 50’s.
