Delaware River Report / Conditions June 6, 2019
We had a couple of rain bands move through yesterday afternoon but the rivers are finally and the flows barely bumped overnight. We are still seeing a lot of bugs on the water and the fish are eating. Nymphing has been effective during the day but there are fish rising especially in shaded areas. The top water action picks up as the sun starts to drop behind the hills. If Wunderground is correct we should see mostly clouds today hopefully bringing the fish to the surface earlier. Wind will be 5 – 10 from the North with the air temp reaching 71 degrees. All of the rivers are decent for wading now and the little bump on the Beaverkill flows is good for that river. Levels are still decent for floating too. Swinging wet flies could be an effective method early today with all of the caddis and Epeorus hatching.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 5, 2019
Overall yesterday fished well with decent bugs and rising fish. Mid day seemed a bit slow for dry fly action but people did find some fish eating caddis and left over spinners. Things really picked up in the evening with just about every mayfly out there that should be out there this time of year. The rivers are in great shape this morning with good wade and float opportunities. Levels are just about perfect. We should see some clouds come in mid morning sticking around the rest of the day. A little light rain in the afternoon and 1/4″ of rain overnight. It looks like a great day to be on the water.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 4, 2019
There were some fish landed on top during the day but the dry fly action got really good after the sun started to drop below the hills. That’s also about the time the wind finally died down. Nymphing worked well while the wind was blowing. March browns, cahills, sulphurs, tan caddis, gray fox, and some cornutas are out there. Lower river sections are seeing some green drakes. This is the time of year to watch risers closely and try to figure out what bug they are eating. We’re coming off a cool night but the air temp should warm up into the low 60’s today. Wind should only be 5 -10 mph out of the West. Sun for most of the day with clouds coming in the late afternoon.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 3, 2019
Yesterday was a bit of a struggle at times but overall the rivers seemed to fish well – especially in the evening after the rain. Caddis, cahills, gray fox, march browns, and sulphurs all floated past us. A few fish were steady but there were a lot of random eaters that you had to pick out and cover a number of times to get them to eat. Caddis and sulphur patterns produced the most fish for us but we did find a few willing to take the bigger bugs. A band of heavy rain came through in the evening but it was short lived and the rivers look fine this morning. We’re still at the best wading levels we’ve seen since last July plus we’re a decent floating level too. There’s no rain in the forecast for today but we should have cooler air temps reaching 56 degrees. There may be some wind gusts mid afternoon but they should drop back in the evening.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 2, 2019
The rain held off until dark last night leaving us with a mix of clouds and sun all day. There were fewer bugs out than Friday but there were enough to keep the fish happy and eating. Most people did well with some really nice fish landed. Dry flies, nymphs, and wet flies all put fish in the net. It was a great way to start off June. The rain did little to the river flows and things look good this morning. The rivers are at decent levels for floating and wading. Today’s weather looks similar to yesterday with some scattered thunderstorms moving through but not dropping a lot of rain. We should see a little over 1/4″ of rain, wind 5 – 10 from the South, and an air temp near 70 degrees. A good fishing day.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 1, 2019
It sounds like it was hard to pick a bad piece of water yesterday and everyone out there did well and caught fish. There were more clouds out there than originally forecasted and that definitely helped. Lots of caddis during the day just about everywhere. Some sections had decent gray fox hatching with some sulphurs while other areas had small hendrickson spinners and a few cahills. There are even some tiny olives hatching now. The fish should start eating those more in the lower flows. Today looks like another good day with cloud cover this morning and a chance of the thunderstorms in the afternoon. Total precipitation during the day should be around .25″ so they are not calling for real heavy storms. We may see the same amount fall overnight. If Wunderground is accurate the rivers will come through just fine with maybe a small bump in flows. We are still at great levels for floating and wading on most of the System.

Everyone seemed to find good hatching and good fish yesterday. The hatches varied depending on what section you were on but there were decent numbers of caddis, hendrickson spinners, march browns, and fishable numbers of gray fox and sulphurs. The rain held off until after dark. The total precip was not much and the rivers look fine this morning. There are a lot of wade opportunities on the system now and we are still floating. We’ll have sunshine with an air temp around 70 degrees today. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North. Sounds like another good day to be on the water.

Delaware River Report / Conditions May 30, 2019
We had more rain yesterday but rather than short lived heavy rain we saw a more steady light rain in the afternoon. The West Branch flow is starting off this morning pretty much where it was yesterday morning at 1,200 cfs. That should fall slowly throughout the day. The Beaverkill flow jumped up to 900 cfs but is already dropping this morning. We have some rain in today’s forecast but the total precipitation should be around 1/10th” during the day and about the same amount overnight. Wind will be 5 – 10 from the South. Looks like a good day to be on the water. Caddis have been the main fish food over the last couple of days but we are seeing the end of the small hendricksons and the beginning of the gray foxes and march browns. We’ve seen a few sulphurs so definitely have that box with you.

Delaware River Report / Conditions May 29, 2019
We were hit with a few bands of rain yesterday. The first one in the morning really had no affect on the rivers. The one in the evening lasted much longer and dropped a lot more rain. The rivers are up ad there is some color in the West Branch. It is fishable this morning. The rain ended early enough that the feeders are beginning to clear this morning and it looks okay out there. The runoff is still filtering down the Mainnstem but the upper rivers have crested and are beginning to fall. The upper East Branch at Harvard is around 300 cfs and is a fine level for wading. Hale Eddy is 1,280 cfs so there are still wade opportunities over here too. If the bugs hatch the fish will eat on top over here. Nymphing worked well yesterday even when the rivers were rising.

Delaware River Report / Conditions May 28, 2019
The dry fly action was a little slower yesterday with the bright sun but fish were landed. Overall nymphing produced more fish. There were some caddis on the water mixed with small hendricksons, gray fox, and a couple of march browns. We did see a couple of sulphurs so have that box ready this week. Today looks like better fishing weather with clouds and some heavy mist this already this morning. We may see some localized thunderstorms this afternoon with heavier rain so check the radar. All of the rivers in the system are at decent wade levels this morning. We haven’t seen that since last July. Floating is still good on the lower EB, WB, and Mainstem.

We had a very beif storm come through in the afternoon and the fishing really seemed to pick up after that. We didn’t get too much rain and all of the rivers in the system are falling. There are now really good wade opportunities on all the rivers and floating is still fine on most of them. We may see a little more sunshine today with the air temp reaching the low 70’s. Wind 8 -10 mph from the North. It looks like a great day to be on the water.

Delaware River Report / Conditions May 26, 2019
We heard great bug reports from most river sections. Lots of caddis, a few hendricksons still, plus the gray fox / march browns. There are a quite a few different caddis species out there so bring your whole box. The size #16 hendricksons have picked up and we have seen fish actually eat the gray foxes. The wind was an issue for some but overall the rivers seemed to fish well for most people. We has some storms move in after dark but the rivers seem to be in fine shape this morning. The flows bumped slightly but everything looks clear and normal this morning. There are wade opportunities on all of the rivers this morning. Floating is still fine on the lower EB, WB and Mainstem. The Cannonsville release has been cut back to 571 cfs.
