Delaware River Report: September 3, 2023

Please watch the temp on the Mainstem today. It peaked at 66 degrees yesterday and is staring off much warmer than yesterday morning. We’re back on a warmer trend so the best shot at daytime dry fly fishing will be in the coldest water sections. Once the sun burns the fog off look for the water with the best hatching temperature, There are still some small sulphurs and olives. The other river sections could have some activity early and late in the day. Nymphing or swinging wets is probably the best bet but you can blind cast some bigger flies like Isonychias, golden drakes, or even white flies. Have some flying ants on you too.

Delaware River Report: September 2, 2023

The release from Cannnonsville has leveled out and we’re in good shape for the weekend with a flow of 670 cfs at Hale Eddy. The lower East Branch and Mainstem will continue to drop as the runoff pushes through the system. The upper East Branch and Beaverkill look fine for wading. The cooler night temps have helped keep water temps n check even on the bright sunny days. Not much has changed on the fishing front. There are still a few sulphurs and olives on the upper river. The hatch is definitely waning. There is a lot of algae up there. The lower West and Main are better for nymphing and wet flies right now. Olives, Isonychias, golden drakes, and white flies are out on different river sections. Flying ants usually come in huge numbers on humid warm days. But there are some around everyday this time of year,

Delaware River Report: September 1, 2023

We have some terrible news. Bob Lewis passed away yesterday. He was part of the the family here playing the role of instructor, guide, and mentor. He was a fixture at the Delaware River Club for years and anyone who met him remembers him. Everyone is still in shock. We will put up details of any services as soon as we hear. In the meantime feel free to email us your favorite crazy Bob story.

The release from Cannnonsville was drooped to 483 cfs and the flow at Stilesville is 500 cfs this morning. It should level out soon. The rest of the rivers are dropping as the runoff subsides from this weeks rain. Everything looks great for the weekend with decent weather. There are still some mayflies hatching on the upper river sections. A few small sulphurs and olives. The algae is bad so if you’re nymphing stick below Hale Eddy.

Delaware River Report: August 31, 2023

The West Branch stayed in decent shape yesterday. There were some sulphurs and olives in the afternoon with some people finding spinners in the evening. We look fine on the West Branch this morning. The level looks fine and wade and float conditions are good. We’ll have sunshine so nymphs and wets would be a good plan for early today. The upper river could still see some daytime hatching. The Beaverkill, lower East Branch, and Mainstem all took a beating and were high and off color by mid afternoon yesterday. They remain high this morning but the levels are falling. They’ll be in much better shape tomorrow morning.

Delaware River Report: August 30, 2023

We were hit with some storms overnight and there is a lot of water coming in from the feeder streams. The gauges are just beginning to show the flows climbing at 6:30 am. Click on the river links below for the latest updates. Right now Home Pool is clear but that could change in the next hour as the runoff pushes through. We’ll update the clarity if it changes. Like normal if it becomes off color Stilesville should stay clear.

Delaware River Report: August 29, 2023

We had a little rain yesterday afternoon but not enough to bump the flows. The rivers are starting off slightly lower than yesterday. Not much has changed on the fishing front. There are still some leftover sulphurs in the upper river sections along with some olives. The lower river sections are better for nymphing or blind casing Isonychias, white flies, and golden drakes. We’ll be a bit warmer than yesterday with cloud cover. if the humidity goes up definitely have some flying ants ready. We’ve had one really strong ant day so far but there are at least a few on the water everyday.

The weather looks good today with decent clouds and a chance of thunderstorms. There are still a few sulphurs on the upper river sections. Olives may fill in that gap if we get some afternoon rain. Isonychias, white flies, and golden drakes are showing on some river sections towards dark. If the humidity stays high definitely have some flying ants in your box. Nymphing or swinging wets will be your best bet early.

Today will be 73 degrees with cloud cover in the morning and a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Total rainfall should be .11″. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report: August 27, 2023

The river flows have dropped a bit more and wading will be easier today. The weather will be similar to yesterday so the best shot at dry fly fishing will be the waning sulphur hatch in the coldest river sections. It’s coming to an end but people are still finding some bugs. Nymphing will be better on the lower river sections with less algae. Blind casting Isonychias, white flies, and golden drakes could work well in the broken water. If the fish won’t eat the dries try a dropper.

Today will be 74 degrees with cloud cover in the morning changing to partly cloudy in the afternoon. There is a very slight chance of a light rain shower. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: August 26, 2023

The rivers are dropping and we’re at decent levels for floating and wading. If you’re wading choose your spots and be careful. Some of the river sections are still a bit high but manageable. Yesterday’s storms slid around us. We had decent numbers of flying ants coming out of the ground yesterday afternoon and the overcast sky helped definitely helped the fishing. Olives and Isonychias are around along with the last of the sulphurs.

Today will be 77 degrees with cloud cover in the morning changing to partly cloudy in the afternoon. There is a very slight chance of a light rain shower. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: August 25, 2023

The rivers are up slightly from the rain but the West Branch is clear out front as of 6:30 am. If that changes we’ll do another blog update. There were some fish landed on dries yesterday but nymphing seemed to be the better bet. There were a few sulphurs and olives but no strong hatch. Streamers could be a good option early and late.

Today will be 77 degrees with decent cloud cover and some possible afternoon thunderstorms and showers. Total rainfall should be .06″ depending on how the storms track. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South.

Today lookd good with cloud cover and some possible rain showers. Wind may be an issue at times 10 – 15 mph from the South so plan some spots to get out of it. It;s still small sulphurs and olives on the upper river. The lower West and Main could see some earlier hatching with the rain. Isonychias, olives, and maybe a few cahills. We may see additional rain overnight so check the flows in the morning.

Today will be 65 degrees with decent cloud cover and some possible light rain. Total rainfall should be .05″ with more coming overnight. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report: August 23, 2023

The cloud cover looks good this morning. We should see some sun poking through but it looks like a good day to be on the water. We’re still seeing some sulphurs and olives on the upper river sections. Potomanthus and white flies are showing u on other sections towards dark. And blind casting Isonychias in the riffles should pick up with the cooler temps and cloud cover. Nymphing or swinging wets would be the best bet starting off. Stick below Hale Eddy for sub surface fishing. Algae is still an issue on the upper river.
