Delaware River Report / Conditions June 23, 2015
The Cannonsville release has been increased to 500 cfs this morning. The West Branch cleared up nicely yesterday and is fishable. There is still some color in the river but not enough to keep the fish from rising. The Mainstem and lower East Branch are still pretty stained this morning. We had some sulphurs and isonychias hatching yesterday with a few olives thrown in for good measure. Streamer worked okay earlier in the day. If you want to nymph go above Oquaga Creek on the West Branch where the flow is lower and clear. The forecast is calling for air temps around 60, winds around 10 mph and a 75% chance of thunderstorms. We may get over a 1/2″ of rain today which will be great for the reservoirs. Bring your raincoat.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 22, 2015
The water temps continue to hold with the great combination of higher flows, rain, and cloud cover. The flows jumped up again yesterday after some storms but are beginning to drop back this morning. If you are wading the story remains the same- upper East Branch and upper West Branch. The rivers are way off color this morning but should clear and drop throughout the day. Oquaga Creek is usually the main offender for dirty water but there may be one or two more above that adding some color so if the water looks too high just keep moving upstream. The West Branch at Walton is flowing into Cannonsvile at 966 cfs- great news. If you want to nymph during the day move upstream to lower, clearer water. There is definitely color in the rivers but the upper WB should be fishable. Today’s forecast is calling for air temps around 80, mostly sun, and with light winds. Gusts should be under 9 mph.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 21, 2015
The flows are up this morning due to some overnight rains. It looks like the West Branch at Hale Eddy is leveling off around 1,400 cfs at the 5:45 am update. We have additional rain in this morning’s forecast so click on the gauge links below for the most up to date information. The Upper West Branch above Oquaga Creek should be in good shape. Sulphurs, cahills, olives, and isonychias should be on the menu today. Streamers could also be effective if the tributaries start pushing a little color into the rivers. The water temps look good this morning and held up well yesterday with the rain and cloud cover. If you head out today bring a raincoat. We should get another 1/4″ or more of rain today which is great for the river system.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 20, 2015
We had a little more sun yesterday but the water temps and flows held up nicely. Isonychias, sulphurs, and cahills made up the mayfly menu with some dark caddis thrown into the mix for good measure. The sun pushed most of the dry fly action back to primetime on sections of the river. There has been some daytime activity in areas and nymphing has been effective during the down time. Today looks like a great day with an air temp reaching 70 with clouds and some light rain during the day. Winds will be light around 5 -7 mph. It looks like a good olive day. We have more rain in the forecast overnight and tomorrow which should be great for the system.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 19, 2015
Yesterday’s combination of clouds, light mist, cool air, and decent flows led to some of the heaviest hatching we’ve seen this season. Some sections of the system had great sulphur hatches mixed with some isonychias, while other sections had decent hatches of cahills and caddis. We also saw decent numbers of olives that lasted from mid afternoon into the evening. For a while there were almost too many bugs hatching, making your fly get lost in the mix. Definitely carry cripple sulphurs and small olives. If the fish are eating sulphurs just under the surface try a pheasant tail wet fly in #18 -20.
We are going to have more sun today with light winds and a chance of a small passing shower. The water temps are looking good this morning throughout most of the system.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 18, 2015
While there is still some color in the water the West Branch is clear enough to fish throughout it’s length. We are expecting a couple of light showers today but they shouldn’t be enough to affect the river. We had a light mix of small sulphurs, cahills, and isonychias spread throughout the day yesterday. It looked like a lot of the action was going to happen right at dark due to the sun. We should have more clouds today so hopefully the hatching starts earlier. Some of the sulphurs are #20 now so definitely carry those in your box. The water temps stayed below 70 most of the system yesterday and the temps at the 191 Bridge are starting slightly lower this morning than yesterday. Nymphing in Deposit has been effective and streamers are still bringing some fish to the net on the river.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 17, 2015
The Cannonsville release has been increased to 400 cfs this morning. The rivers are dropping and beginning to clear but there is still some color in the water. There were some bugs out yesterday, a few sulphurs, cahills, and isonychias. Most of the fish caught yesterday were on streamers but there were some targets. Nymphing is still best above Oquaga Creek where it is clear and low. We are looking at warm air temps and sun today but hopefully the storms forecasted to hit us over the next few day work out and continue to fill the reservoirs.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 16, 2015
We had some more rain yesterday afternoon and again overnight but the rivers are beginning to drop this morning. The additional rain has kept the color in the rivers but the West Branch is definitely clearer than it was yesterday afternoon. It is wadeable and clear enough to fish in Stilesville. The forecast is calling for a little additional rain today, right around 1/10th of an inch. Temps are still an issue on the Mainstem, lower East Branch, and were getting warm on the lower West Branch which peaked at 66 degrees yesterday under the 191 Bridge in Hancock. Check the river temps with a thermometer if you fish the lower sections. The best chance of finding risers will be above Oquaga Creek again.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 15, 2015
One of the rainstorms finally hit us! All of the rivers in the system are high and still rising as of 6 am. We have a lot of color in the water this morning but that should clear on the West Branch as the day goes on if we don’t get hit again. The best news is the inflow into Cannonsville on the West Branch is 1,210 cfs and the East Branch flowing into Pepacton is 1,250 cfs. Temps remain an issue on the Mainstem with Lordville over 70 degrees again this morning. The Mainstem will rise for most of the day as the increased flow in the branches makes it’s way downstream. The West Branch is wadeable this morning above Oquaga Creek with a flow of 272 cfs at Stilesville. You should find the usual suspects up there with little olives, sulphurs, cahills, and isonychias. Accuweather is calling for an air temp of 79 degrees today with light winds and some possible showers.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 14, 2015
The Mainstem is starting off over 70 degrees again this morning. The lower East Branch is 67 degrees. This is another day to leave those rivers alone and concentrate on the Upper East Branch or the West Branch. The West Branch under the 191 Bridge in Hancock peaked at 69 degrees yesterday so if you are on the lower river check the temps before you fish.
Find the cold water and you should see some sporadic daytime caddis activity mixed with an occasional sulphur. A lot of the hatching has been coming during the last half our of light. Some morning have even fished well with left over spinner and occasional hatches.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 13, 2015
We did get some of the rain in the forecast last night but so far the flows have gone up the way we hoped. There is a little more water in the system this morning but the water temperatures remain the same or are even a little higher. Stick to the West Branch and Upper East Branch for trout fishing today. The gauge at Lordville is registering 71 degrees this morning with a peak of 74 degrees yesterday afternoon. Great for smallmouth fishing, not so great for trout. Fishs eddy is 67 degrees this morning. Those water temps may drop slightly this morning before bottoming out and climbing again. If you fish the lower West Branch double check the river temps with your thermometer. The upper West and upper East will offer the best opportunities again today. We should see the usual mix of sulphurs, cahills, and isonychias. The heave been some caddis around offering sporadic daytime risers- especially along the shaded banks.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 12, 2015
Yesterday fished okay with some fish rising to a mix of sulphurs and a few isonychias. Nymphing was still the best daytime option with the rivers falling and clearing. Blind casting cahills and isos in riffles produced some fish. The bright sun made the fish a little shy until the sun dropped. Don’t leave the river too early since most of the dryfly action is coming in the last hour. Sulphur and sulphur spinners are making up most of the fishing during primetime.
The Mainstem at Lordville peaked at 72 degrees yesterday and is starting off at 69 degrees at 5:45 this morning. I would stay off the Mainstem this morning and double check the lower West and East Branches with a thermometer before fishing today. The Upper West and East Branches will have the best temperatures and the most activity during this heat wave.
