The West Branch is a good mix of ice and open water. Spring is coming!

The West Branch is a good mix of ice and open water. We’re seeing more open water every day.  Spring is coming!

March 24, 2015

Spring is creeping in slowly and there is a little open water on the system.  Hopefully the slightly warmer weather and rain predicted for later this week comes to pass.

We are thawing, but the river is still frozen solid.  There is warmer daytime weather on the way but the nights are still going to be below freezing.

Let's hope the snow keeps coming!

Let’s hope the snow keeps coming!

Cold weather and another 6″ to 12″ of snow in the next few days will be great news for the Reservoirs!

February 2, 2015 Decent snow!

Today looks great for the snowpack around the reservoir.  It’s not so great for a 12 year old Redbeau!  The weather channel is calling for snow until 5 PM today.

While the hatching has definitely slowed down Bob just couldn’t let the unbelievable weather pass by yesterday without fishing.

Delaware River Report / Conditions October 31, 2014

Happy Halloween!  The release from Cannonsville has been increased this morning but the all of the rivers in the system remain wadeable.  Today looks like a nice day to be on the water for the end of October.  We should have air temps in the low 50’s and winds around 4 mph.  We won’t see too many more days like this so if you have the opportunity to fish you should take it.  We are looking at a temperature drop and some rain tomorrow.  Nymphing is your best bet early and there is still the possibility of seeing some fish eat olives on top in the afternoon.  The West Branch under the 191 Bridge in Hancock is 46 degrees this morning.

Hatching:

Tiny Blue Wing Olives #22 – 26 – Pseudocloeon sp.

Dark Blue Winged Olive #16 -20 – E. deficiens, lata, etc.

Slate Drakes #14 -Isonychia bicolor

FLOWS AS OF 8:00 AM:
West Branch at Stilesville, NY 218 cfs @ 52º
West Branch at Hale Eddy, NY 334 cfs @ 48º
East Branch at Harvard, NY 156 cfs @ 45º
East Branch at Fish’s Eddy, NY 496 cfs @ 45º
Mainstem at Lordville, NY 974 cfs @ 48º
Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, NY 209 cfs @ N/A

Delaware River Report / Conditions October 30, 2014

The forecast looks pretty decent today before the front moves in bringing the cold temperatures and light rain tomorrow night through the weekend.  We should hit 50 degrees today with winds gusting to 8 mph but averaging more like 5 mph. We should see some pseudos hatching plus the last little flushes of the Isonychias.  Dark caddis have worked okay on sporadic fish that are eating left over spinners and dead caddis in the larger pools.  Nymphing has been okay but most effective mid morning with caddis pupa and small pheasant tails working best.  The West Branch under the 191 Bridge in Hancock is 51 degrees this morning.
