Delaware River Report / Conditions August 24, 2020

Today we have a better shot of some afternoon thunderstorms.  Wunderground is calling the odds about 40%.  Total rainfall will only be .03″ but the cloud cover will be a welcome sight.  Wind will be 5 – 10 from the South.  While the nights are still cooler we’ve slid back into summer like days after being spoiled with cool weather last week. Hopefully the temps break over the next couple of days.  Nymphing will be your best bet early but there has been some trico activity mid morning.  It’s been spotty and pool to pool so move around and look for the clouds of spinners.  We’re seeing olives and caddis once the sun drops in the evening.  There are more isonychias being spotted but  it seems a lot of them are coming off after dark with the stenos / cahills.  Those hatches will shift to earlier in the day once the water temps drop back a few more degrees.

The lower Beaverkill, lower East Branch, and Mainstem temperatures are all peaking over 70 degrees.  Give those rivers a break until they cool down.
