Delaware River Report / Conditions July 1, 2018

The release from Cannonsville has been increased to 715 cfs.  This should keep the West Branch cool today.  It’s great to see some much needed cold water coming down the river.  810 cfs at Hale Eddy is good for both wading and floating.  There is some algae floating through on the upper sections but that should flush out.  Today looks like a repeat of yesterday with bright sun and the air temp reaching 90 degrees.  The best dry fly action will be early and late in the day during low light conditions.  We mostly saw caddis and sulphurs on the water last night.  Nymphing or swinging wets during the day will be your best bet and paid off for some people yesterday.  Look for pools that have good afternoon shade.  The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, the East Branch at Harvard and Fishs Eddy, and the Mainstem at Lordville all peaked over 70 degrees yesterday.  Fishs Eddy and Lordville are starting off over 70 degrees this morning.  If you are fishing for trout stick to the West Branch or go up to Downsville on the East.
