Delaware River Report / Conditions July 20, 2019

The release to Cannonsville has been increased to cool down the river during this heat wave.  We also were hit with a brief but heavy thunderstorm last night.  The river got foggy and visibility was tough.  Otherwise the rain didn’t do much to the rivers.  There were some fish working on sulphurs and a few isonychias.  Today is going to be a hot one with the air temp in the 90’s, wind 5 – 10 from the West, and the possibility of some afternoon thunderstorms.  It looks like the weather breaks on Monday.

A blast of cold water coming down the West Branch

The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, the East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and the Mainstem at Lordville are all starting off today too hot to fish for trout.  If you’re fishing for trout give those areas a break and fish in the cold water closer to the dams or the headwaters of the freestone rivers.
