Delaware River Report / Conditions July 21, 2019

Yesterday was hot.  The West Branch was cold and wading felt good.  We had clouds for most of the morning that certainly helped it feel cooler than it really was.  Sulphurs, olives,  and a few isonychias did hatch on the upper river in the afternoon.  The release from Cannonsville is still around 800 cfs this morning.  The WB at the 191 Bridge in Hancock is starting off at 59 degrees.  The colder water on the lower river sections should push the hatches a little earlier in the evening.  We are under a heat advisory again so bring lots of water and take breaks in the shade.  We’ll have more sun than yesterday with wind 10 – 15 mph from the North.  The weather breaks tonight and we are looking at high temps in the 70’s tomorrow, even dropping into the 50’s tomorrow night.

The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, the East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and the Mainstem at Lordville are all starting off today too hot to fish for trout.  If you’re fishing for trout give those areas a break and fish in the cold water closer to the dams or the headwaters of the freestone rivers.
