Delaware River Report / Conditions July 23, 2019

We had a few periods of heavy rain yesterday but for the most part it was just a light steady rain all day long.  Olives, sulphurs, and a few isonychias hatched and overall it was a good day if you didn’t mind being wet.  The flow in Stilesville hasn’t budged so above Oquaga Creek conditions are the same as yesterday.  The flow at Hale Eddy is 866 cfs and already dropping this morning.  The West Branch out front is pretty clear and fishable this morning.  We’re still at a level that offers good wading and good floating.  The flows will drop throughout the day as the runoff subsides.  We shouldn’t see any rain today.  Wunderground is calling for clouds, the air temp hitting the mid 70’s, and wind from the North 5 – 10 mph.  It looks like a great day to be on the water.

While water temps have dropped in the last 24 hours we’re sticking with the statement below.  Give the fish on the lower East and Main Stem a break and stick to the colder water.

The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, the East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and the Mainstem at Lordville are all starting off today too hot to fish for trout.  If you’re fishing for trout give those areas a break and fish in the cold water closer to the dams or the headwaters of the freestone rivers.
