Delaware River Report / Conditions July 29, 2018

The release from Cannonsville was increased slightly bringing the flow at Stilesville to 582 cfs.  This will keep the West Branch in great shape as the runoff subsides.  To potential rain never materialized yesterday so we had a good mix of sun and clouds most of the afternoon.  The mid afternoon hatches are still happening on the upper river sections.  The larger release should move the cold water line downstream so we may see more daytime activity on the lower river sections over the next few days.  Nymphing or swinging wets are still good options to put some fish in the net before the hatches start.  Streamer fishing is worth a shot in the higher flows- especially early and late.  Today looks like a carbon copy of yesterday.  Air temps in the high 70’s, partly cloudy, and winds out of the North 5 – 10 mph.

Despite the higher flows there are still temperature issues on the lower East Branch, Beaverkill, and Mainstem.  Stick to the West Branch or the upper East Branch for trout. As the flows drop those rivers will heat up again in the sun over the next few days.

It's back. Come fish, hangout, and do some good on the river!
