Delaware River Report / Conditions July 6, 2019

The release from Cannonsville was bumped slightly yesterday but looks like it is dropping back already this morning.  The current release is 600 cfs until further notice. We didn’t get the thunderstorms yesterday, just a mix of clouds and sun.  Today we have an 80% chance of afternoon storms but the predicted precip. total has been dropped to 1/4″.  If Wunderground is correct we should have good cloud cover by lunch.  The mid day sulphurs are hatching on the tailwaters and you will find some isonychias and cahills mixed in.  Caddis and spinners have been active in the morning.  Swinging wet flies and nymphing should work well until the hatching picks up inn the afternoon.

The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, the East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and the Mainstem at Lordville are all starting off today too hot to fish for trout.  If you’re fishing for trout give those areas a break and fish in the cold water closer to the dams or the headwaters of the freestone rivers.
