Delaware River Report / Conditions May 27, 2015

If you are planning to fish today stick to wading on the West Branch and Upper East Branch. In the afternoon we suggest checking the water temperature on the lower WB with a thermometer before fishing.   The Mainstem needs to cool down before it is fishable again.  Yesterday’s cloud cover did help keep the rivers cooler than they would have been in bright sun but no significant rain materialized out of the thunderstorms.  The West Branch under the 191 Bridge peaked at 66 degrees yesterday while the Mainstem at Lordville hit 70 degrees.  The Lordville gauge is showing 68 degrees this morning at the 4:45 am update. The forecast today is for an air temperature of 80 degrees with some more thunderstorms.  It doesn’t look like much rainfall coming but hopefully one of these storms sits on us for a while and we get enough runoff to cover the exposed stream bed.
The march browns, gray fox, green drakes, and sulphurs are hatching throughout the river system.  If the clouds and rain materialize today keep an eye out for little olives.

Les sent us this picture of a thick fish caught before the Mainstem temp issues.
