Delaware River Report / Conditions September 25, 2021

Now that the runoff on the West Branch has subsided the release from Cannonsville has been increased to 1,400 again.  The West cleared up quite a bit by last evening but still had a little color.  The high release will also have the normal tint to the water we get every year.  The rest of the rivers are dropping but everything is still high.  Wading is not a great option on the big rivers.  Look for the small feeder streams for safe places to wade.  We should hit 72 degrees with cloud cover this afternoon.  Wind will be light and variable.  Streamers and nymphs to start off with.  The olives may hatch in the aftenoon.  Pick water that is slow enough for the fish to rise in.

What’s Hatching:
Olive Sulphur – #18 – 20 – Heptagenia hebe
Light Cahill – #14 – Stenocron spp. , E. invaria
Slate Drake – #12-2xl – 12 – Isonychia bicolor
Tiny Blue Wing Olive – #20 – 24 – Pseudocloeon sp.
Blue Wing Olives – #16 – 20 – D. deficiens, lata
Light Blue Wing Olives – #16 – 20 – E. cornutella, attenuata
Tan Caddis – #16 – 18 – Hydropsyche sp.
