We were hit by some pretty heavy rains last night bringing most of the rivers in the system up. The flows have begun to drop back this morning. Accuweather is calling for an additional 1/4″ of rain scattered throughout today- hopefully it hits us. We’re looking at air temps in the mid 70’s today with moderate winds. The rivers look good from the bridges this morning with a little color coming in near the creek mouths. The flow on the lower East Branch is still rising this morning so we’ll have to wait and see if more color is coming down from the Beaverkill System. The West Branch is falling right now and looks good.
Sulphurs, cahills, and isonychias are the most predominant mayflies. There are still some brown drakes hatching at night and / or early morning. Tan and dark charcoal caddis have been hatching too. The cloud cover should help the daytime fishing today.
Hatching:
Slate Drake #12-2xl – Isonychia bicolor
Sulphur #16-18 – E. dorothea
Light Cahills #14 – various steno species (invaria, etc)
PED / Pink Lady #14 – E. vitreus
Large Blue Winged Olive #14 – D. cornuta
