Delaware River Report / Conditions May 31, 2018

Sun and wind is a tough combination.  Some people found success nymphing early.  Blind casting caddis in the riffles paid off here and there.  Most of the hatching came after the sun dipped below the trees.  Today looks like much better weather.  We have some clouds and may see some light rain around noon.  It looks like a brief shower that may be more like a heavy mist.  We’ll see a bit more rain overnight but that should only be .15″.  The rest of the weekend has some rain everyday but the forecast doesn’t look like the rivers will be affected much. It looks like good fishing weather.  The hot, sunny days spiked the water temps on the lower Mainstem and East Branch.  We should be fine today with the cloud cover and cooler temps.  If you fish those areas double check the water temps with a thermometer today.  The bug list is not us being lazy or forgetful.  It’s May 31st and we’re still seeing some Hendricksons on the water.  They are definitely being overshadowed by the other hatches now but there are still a few out there and you can find fish that will eat them in #16.
