Yesterday’s 20% chance of storms turned into some thunder and a few brief but heavy downpours going into prime time. That added some fog and made fishing difficult as the sulphurs were hatching. The flow at Hale Eddy bumped to 800 cfs but is already falling back this morning. The color looks good. The West should settle in like nothing happened if today’s rain misses us. Sulphurs, olives, and isonychias. The East side flows also bumped up but unless you’re fishing above Harvard they are all too hot to fish for trout. Wunderground is calling for thunderstorms this afternoon with 1/2″ of rain. These storms are usually hit or miss. If there is a big flow change due to runoff we’ll do another update.
The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, the East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and the Mainstem at Lordville are all starting off today too hot to fish for trout. If you’re fishing for trout give those areas a break and fish in the cold water closer to the dams or the headwaters of the freestone rivers.
