The river flows below the feeder streams are still dropping. The West Branch looks good this morning with 800 cfs at Hale Eddy and clearer than yesterday. We’re in for another day of sunshine so the best bet for dry fly fishing remains the coldest water close to the dams. The midday sulphurs and olives are still hatching. Some days certain pools have had stronger hatches than others so if things seem a little slow it could be worth exploring up or down stream. The mid to lower West has been fishing with nymphs and wets. The best shot at dries on the lower West will be at dark with today’s weather. Although blind casting Isonychias or cahills in the riffles could pay off.
Today will be 82 degrees and sunny. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.
The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, the East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and the Mainstem water temps will climb too high in today’s sunshine. It’s time to give these rivers a break.
