Delaware River Report: July 31, 2024

We’ve had a few rain showers this morning but it hasn’t been enough to bump the river flows. The West Branch is in good shape with a 500 cfs release. We may see some additional storms but Wunderground is only calling for .1″ of additional rain. The cloud cover will be a nice bonus today. The rain may push some olives on the mid to lower West a bit earlier than we’ve seen them but the best bet for dry fly fishing will still be the midday sulphurs and tiny olives on the upper river sections. Nymphing or blind casting Isonychias on the mid to lower West could be a good bet too.

Today will be 80 degrees with scattered storms. The after noon should be cloudy with a chance of some thunderstorms. Total rainfall should be .1″. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South.

The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, the East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and the Mainstem water temps will climb too high in today’s sunshine. It’s time to give these rivers a break.
