The release from Cannonsville is 500 cfs. So we’re back to normal and the West Branch is at a good level for floating and wading. We shouldn’t see any pulses for a while with the much cooler air temps. Depending on how the storms track we may see a lot of rain today – possibly up to 1″ by tomorrow morning. Hopefully the slide around us but if we do get hit that has the potential to change the flows significantly. Keep and eye on the radar and check the gauge links below for the latest flows. In the meantime the best bet for dry fly fishing is still going to be in the coldest water on the Upper East and the Upper West. Midday sulphurs and olives have been starting between noon and 2 pm. The lower West has some potential with the weather but probably needs a day or two with the cooler weather for the bugs to push earlier. Blind casting Isonychias or Cahills is always a good option this time of year. Nymphing has been better on the lower West die to the algae in Deposit.
The Beaverkill, Lower East Branch, and Mainstem water temps are still peaking in the mid to high 70’s. It’s time to give these rivers a break until they cool back down.
Today will be 70 degrees with periods of rain. Total rainfall should be .84″. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.
