Delaware River Report: June 2, 2024

Today will be a lot like yesterday but with more cloud cover. There may be some left over spinners and dead bugs in the big pools early. Then nymphing or swinging wets will be a good bet. Like everyday there is a shot at caddis in the riffles just about any time. There have been some sporadic Green Drakes during the day and the coffin flies in the evening or dark. There are still some March Browns, Gray Fox, Cahils, sulphurs, and Isonychias in the mix too.

Today will be 79 degrees with cloudy skies. Wind will be light and variable.

The release from Cannonsville was bumped slightly to 500 cfs. This is the normal flow for June 1 under the FFMP and has nothing to do with the potential aqueduct work. Today will be warmer, sunny, with no wind. That should get the caddis out so watch the riffle or sporadic risers. We also had some midday sulphurs yesterday and that may happen again. The spinners have been decent in the evening on some sections so don’t leave the river too early. There are a lot of different bugs hatching right now so bring all of your boxes.

Today will be 79 degrees with lots of sunshine. Wind will be light and variable.

Today is going to look a lot like yesterday with sunshine and some wind. If we get some breaks in the wind look for caddis in the riffles. Blind casting March Browns, Gray Fox, or Isonychias could pay off too. Nymphing and wets will the best bets early on these sunny days. There may be some activity early with left over spinners before the sun really hits the water. We saw some Green Drakes during the day but the majority have been coming towards dark with some sulphurs. There are a lot of different bugs out there so bring a lot of flies.

Today will be 71 degrees with a mix of clouds and sun. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: May 30, 2024

We had a bit of rain overnight but the river flows are about the same as yesterday morning. Overall a lot of nice fish hit the net yesterday. There are a lot of different bugs on the water but the intensity of the hatches varies by river section, time of day, and the weather. So move, be patient, and watch the riffles for the caddis eaters. Olives and caddis are around in good numbers. There have been coffin flies on some river sections along with the March Browns, Gray Fox, cahills, and sulphurs. It’s the time of year you don’t want to get off the river early. Nymphing and wets are your best bets early but we should start seeing some mid morning cornutas soon.

Today will be 66 degrees with a mix of clouds and sun. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the North.

We had a few periods of good rain yesterday afternoon but the West Branch came through in decent shape again. The flow at Hale Eddy is 566 cfs and dropping back. Oquaga Creek is only 42 cfs and dropping. The East Branch and Mainstem had color last night but should clear soon if we don’t get additional rain. A lot of people took advantage of the rain and higher water and had a good day on streamers. There was some dry fly fishing with olives, March Browns, Gray Fox, and caddis. The intensity of the hatches has varied by river section so keep your options open and be willing to move. Today looks very similar to yesterday with less wind.

Today will be 68 degrees with clouds in the morning and some potential storms in the afternoon. Total rainfall should be .11″. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.

While we had periods of heavy rain yesterday most of the storms slid around us here on the West Branch. The flow at Hale Eddy is 520 cfs and Home Pool is clear. The West is looking good this morning. The Beaverkill and East Branch are up quite a bit and will take a day or two to settle down. The West had some color during the storms and the streamer fishing picked up for a while. March Browns, Gray Fox, Cahills, Sulphurs, and some Green Drakes have been hatching. The intensity of the hatches has varied by river section and weather but they are there. The caddis have been out in good numbers too.

Today will be 69 degrees with clouds in the morning and some potential storms in the afternoon. Total rainfall should be .1″. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the West.

If there is any major change in conditions from the storms we’ll post a mid afternoon update

The heat has broken and we should peak at 71 degrees today. Wunderground is calling for .57″ of rain today. A lot of that should soak into the ground as long as it falls over a few hours and not all at once. Today looks like nymphs, wets, and possibly even streamers. There’s always a shot at dries if you can hide from the wind or at least find a protected bank. March Browns, Gray Fox, cahills, sulphurs, olives, and some green drakes have been spotted. The Mainstem and lower East should cool off now opening up more water and more opportunities.

Both the East Branch at Fishs Eddy and the Mainstem at Lordville peaked at 69 degrees again yesterday. The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls hit 67 degrees. The rivers are starting off cooler this morning but please check the water temps before fishing these river sections.

Today will be 71 degrees with clouds in the morning and some potential storms in the afternoon. Total rainfall should be .57″. Wind will be 10 – 20 mph from the South.

We’re having trouble accessing the USGS flow data but everything looks good this morning. We had a few afternoon storms that seemed to slide North of us. Hopefully the weather report is correct today and we see better cloud cover. Nymphing and wets will still be your best bets early. If it’s sunny again this morning look for places that are shaded longer from the mountains. Anything like that can make a difference. March Browns, Gray Fox, and cahills have been hatching sporadically. There are still some caddis in the riffles. Towards dark we’re seeing the sulphurs.

Again. Both the East Branch at Fishs Eddy and the Mainstem at Lordville peaked at 69 degrees yesterday. The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls hit 67 degrees. The rivers are starting off cooler this morning but please check the water temps before fishing these river sections.

Today will be 82 degrees with sun and clouds mixed. There is a slight chance of an afternoon thunderstorm. Wind will be light and variable.

Today is looking a lot like yesterday and should fish the same. Nymphs and wet flies will be the best bets early. Blind casing bigger flies like March Browns and Gray Foxes could work well in the riffles. Keep an eye on the riffles for fish eating caddis. There may be a few cornutas hatching early so don’t necessarily write off mid morning for dries. The mayflies should come later in the evening led by the sulphurs and a few cahills.

Again – yesterday 5/24. Both the East Branch at Fishs Eddy and the Mainstem at Lordville peaked at 69 degrees yesterday. The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls hit 67 degrees. The rivers are starting off cooler this morning but please check the water temps before fishing these river sections.

We had more afternoon sun than we were hoping for but people found some fish. Nymphing and wets will be the best bets early. There is a planned power outage for our road from 8 am until early afternoon. Our shop will be open as normal.

We had some rain showers overnight that was just enough to knock the dust down. The river flows are starting off about the same as yesterday. The heat had kind of broken with today forecasted to hit 78 degrees. The cloud cover looks great and should help the fishing. We’re still seeing decent caddis on some river sections along with a smattering of March Browns and Gray Fox. The sulphurs have been coming off towards dark. Today has the potential to be a good blue wing olive day.

Both the East Branch at Fishs Eddy and the Mainstem at Lordville hit 70 degrees yesterday. The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls hit 69.8 degrees. The cooler weather and cloud cover should help but check the water temps before fishing these river sections.

Today will be 78 degrees with cloudy skies. We may see .15″ of rain this morning slightly clearing in the afternoon. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.

Today will be another sunny hot one. Nymphing or swinging wets will be good options early. The evening should bring decent caddis again and the sulphurs towards dark. There will be a mix of cahills, March Browns, and Gray Fox. Those have been a bit sporadic but that can make them good searching patterns. We should get a 10 degree drop in air temp tomorrow with a possible bit of rain overnight.

Both the East Branch at Fishs Eddy and the Mainstem at Lordville hit 69 degrees yesterday so it’s time to give those rivers a break until they cool back down.

Today will be 88 degrees with sunny to partly cloudy skies. There is a slight chance of an afternoon thunderstorm or shower. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South.
