Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Report 9/1/2010
It looks like today is going to be another sunny day. Main Stem water temperatures have been on the rise over the past few days and are getting to the point where you will want to stay off of it unless you are planning on targeting bass. BWO’s, iso’s and pseudo have been making up the majority of the dry fly action on the entire system; keep an eye out for flying ants throughout the day. If the sun keeps fish from rising today, try nymphing them up as this can be very productive on sunny days.

Today and the next couple are going to be very sunny, with highs in the low 90’s. Temperatures on the Upper Main Stem and the Lower West are heating up rapidly so be sure to keep an eye on the flows and water temperatures for the next week at least. Flying ants have more or less been the bugs of choice during the middle of the day. The olives have been out in decent numbers also, and have lasted later in to the evening. Water levels are down and the fish are getting wary so take your time wading or positioning your boat on rising fish. Take ten minutes to do it slow and you should have a better chance.

Today is supposed to be mostly sunny with a high of 88 degrees. Yesterday was a great day to be on the river. Flying ants were out again in force during the afternoon and they had the river fishing very well yesterday. With conditions almost identical to yesterday, there is a good possibility they will once again produce great fishing action for today. Other than ants, BWO’s will likely be your primary hatch for the day on the West Branch as the Upper Main could see excellent white fly and/or iso’s this evening.

More sun in the forecast for today, with a high of 88. The bright sun will likely limit your mid-day surface activity, but the mornings have seen decent action on tricos, and the evening hours, just before dark, have been fishing well also. Primarily, there have been small olives on the West Branch and good white fly and iso action on the Upper Main Stem late in the evenings, with decent spinner falls as well. Be prepared for flying ants as well; we suspect that sometime in the next couple of days we will see another good push from that hatch. Temperatures for now, are looking good on the Upper Main, but keep your eye on the gauges because the temperatures are likely to rise with the warmer weather and lower water levels.

Looks like today is going to be another sunny day, yesterday we experienced slower action then the previous four days, however we still found some good targets on the West Branch. Main Stem water temperatures are still looking good down to the Buckingham access area. With BWO’s, iso’s and pseudo making up the majority of the dry fly action, keep an eye on the banks looking for large fish pushed out of the center of the river. If the sun keeps fish from rising today, try nymphing them up as this can be very productive on sunny days.

Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Report 8/27/2010
River levels will be dropping significantly today as Cannonsville Reservoir is releasing 108 cfs this morning. The forecast for the next three days shows plenty of sun with a high today of 75º and reaching the upper 80’s by Sunday. Water temperatures are still looking good on the entire West Branch as well as the Upper Main Stem down to Buckingham access area. Nymph fishing may be the best option for the day, but once the morning fog burns off, look for olives to be the major hatch of the day on the West Branch. The Upper Main Stem has seen heavy hatches of iso’s if your timing is right and we would expect to see a great spinner fall during one of these sunny days that are ahead of us.

Today they are calling for partly cloudy skies with a high of 75º. The release from Cannonsville Reservoir this morning is 325 cfs, West Branch water has cleared up and is still running in the mid 50’s throughout the majority of the system. The Main Stem is also clearing up and water temperatures at Lordville are 63ºF this morning. Today water levels look like they are going to be great for the wade fisherman looking for plenty of access as well as anyone looking to run a drift boat or pontoon down the river. Today much of the dry fly action should be on BWO’s ranging in size from 24-18, in addition to the BWO’s look for iso’s and sulphurs on the West Branch or white fly’s if you choose to explore the Upper Main Stem,

Today’s overcast conditions should produce more olive activity. Yesterday evening, olive spinners were out in numbers with fish on them; we are anticipating more of the same today. The West Branch has cleared up nicely and is currently flowing at a level that is good for both wade fishermen and drift boats. Water levels are on the drop, so keep an eye on the gauges if planning a float. We suspect this pattern will remain this way until the water level at Montague, NJ gets back to normal.

Releases were dropped yesterday, but with all the rain, water levels spiked for a few hours before slowly receding again. Feeder streams and run-off are contributing to the murky water conditions that we have now, and this will typically slow the fishing action down a bit. Depending on the amount of rain that we get today, the water levels should continue to drop, and the clarity will start to improve over the next couple of days. The lower West and the upper Main Stem had some bug activity yesterday but very little action given the worsening conditions as the day went on.

Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Report 8/23/10
The Release from Cannonsville reservoir has been cut to 394 cfs; most likely do to yesterday’s rain. Flows for the moment are still floatable, but keep an eye on dropping water levels over the next few days. River has stayed relatively clean despite all the rain, but has some definite color to it. Yesterday the West Branch was fishing well with great hatches of small Olives and a good streamer bite as well. The Main Stem has been fishing okay, but is likely off color from the rapid rise in water levels coming from the East Branch.

We will have T-storms throughout the day today, and it has been raining consistently since early this morning. The release was cut back, but depending on the amount of rain that we get, the river may rise a little bit and possibly get a little muddy. Conditions should make for a great streamer day and there is a good chance the Olives will come off in decent numbers. Lately, Isonychia have also seemed to show up when we get a little break in the rain.
