Delaware River Report: April 20, 2024
The release from Cannonsville has been increased to 1,499 cfs with 1,522 cfs spilling over the dam. The work is finished and we expect the 1,500 release to continue until the spill stops. The wind caused a few issues yesterday but the bugs hatched and the fish rose. Luckily it wasn’t a sustained wing and we had some breaks. Everyone ended up having a good day. Hendricksons, olives, and blue quills are in the mix. We still have some little black caddis and a few stoneflies are still around. Today looks similar with a shift in the wind direction and maybe a bit more sun.
Today will be 57 degrees with clouds and occasional rain showers in the morning. We should see sunshine in the afternoon. Total rainfall will be .04″. Wind will be 10 – 20 mph from the North.

The release from Cannonsville is still 0 cfs with 1,502 cfs spilling over the dam. The spill increased slightly due to the zero release. They should increase the release before the weekend so keep an eye on the gauge. Yesterday was decent with nymphing in the morning followed by olives, blue quills, and hendricksons. The fish were up and happy in the late afternoon. Today we have some wind to deal with but it will be warmer and the bugs will come.

Delaware River Report: April 18, 2024
The release from Cannonsville is still 0 cfs with 1,502 cfs spilling over the dam. The spill increased slightly due to the zero release. The river flows are dropping slowly. There was a slight bump from the rain overnight but we are starting off lower than yesterday morning. The 10 day forecast doesn’t show any significant rain. Today looks good with cloud cover and light wind. We should see the olives, blue quills, and some hendricksons on the water this afternoon. Nymphing or streamers early. The flows are still high so floating is the way to go on the West, East, and Mainstem. The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls is 1,400 cfs. There will be limited options there. The Willowemoc should have more wad options.
Today will be 51 degrees with cloud cover. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report: April 17, 2024
The release from Cannonsville was cut back to 0 with 1,187 cfs spilling over the dam. This is fine since the water temp of the spill is in the low 40’s. The lower flow should concentrate the bugs hatching and actually improve the fishing. Yesterday was a beautiful day to be on the water and people found the afternoon mix of olives, blue quills, and hendricksons. Today looks good with cloud cover and some rain. The wind is only 5 – 10 mph from the South so that’s definitely a nice change. There are some wade opportunities opening up on the Willowemoc and Beaverkill.
Today will be 59 degrees with clouds and periods of rain. Total rainfall during the day will be .18″. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report: April 16, 2024
Yesterday turned out to be a beautiful day and today is shaping up the same. Most people are starting off throwing streamers in the morning and finding some rising fish in the afternoon. Watching slower edges and big pools that are normally too slow has paid off. The water temps are in good shape so we’re seeing a mix of blue quills, hendricksons, and blue wing olives. The bugs get spread out in high water so find areas that funnel the water into a tighter space. The rivers are in great shape for floating but still too high to wade. If we don’t get any additional rain the Willowemoc and Beaverkill should offer some wade opportunities in a couple of days. The tailwaters and Mainstem will take longer due to the higher releases and spill.
Today will be 65 degrees with sunshine. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: April 15, 2024
It’s not supposed to rain today. The rivers have leveled off but remain high. Both reservoirs are spilling and floating is the best and only option. We had a few thunderstorms overnight but the feeder streams are dropping. Wading is only an option on the small head water streams. The Beaverkill and Willowemoc should drop first but will still need a few days to be safe to wade. We’re on a warming trend again so we should see the Hendrickson, blue quill, and blue wing olives hatches pick up again this week. Streamers will be the best bet early today but some of the water temps are looking good this morning and should peak at decent levels due to the sunshine and warmer air temp.
Today will be 64 degrees with a mix of sun and clouds. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: April 14, 2024
The river flows are beginning to drop slowly but it will take a while to get to normal levels. Floating is still the only safe option this morning. The smaller feeder streams should offer some wade opportunities in the headwaters. Streamers and nymphs have been the best bets on the larger rivers since the river flows came up. The dry fly fishing should pick back up as the water drops and temps increase. The 10 day forecast shows us back in the 60’s all week so that should definitely help. Like always bring a dry fly rod just in case today.
Today will be 63 degrees with some rain showers and a possible afternoon thunderstorm. Total precip should be .11″. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the South.

We were hit with quite a bit of rain yesterday. The West Branch at Hale Eddy is 2,860 cfs. Cannonsville is spilling 1,173 cfs. The West Branch is off color but fishable from a boat if you are cautious and good on the oars. We don’t see any debris floating down the river. Every other river in the system is extremely high and off color. There is no safe wading today. Streamers will be your best bet today although nymphs may produce on some seams. Dry fly seems unlikely but always bring a rod rigged just in case.
Today will be 44 degrees with light rain and snow transitioning to light rain in the afternoon. Total precip should be .22″. Wind will be 10 – 20 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: April 12, 2024
Noon Update: We were hit with a few more rounds of rain. The river are still coming up and we’re seeing some color in the West Branch. We are still floating today.
Last night’s rain was enough to bump the flows. So far this morning the Beaverkill and East Branch have gone up the most. The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls is 2,600 cfs and rising. The only possibility for wading would be the real small feeder streams. Floating is the only option on the main rivers today. The West Branch at Hale Eddy is 2,720 cfs. Water clarity is fine in Home Pool as of 7 am. Yesterday fished well with a mix of Hendricksons, blue quills, and olives. The wind was intermittent so that certainly helped.
Today will be 61 degrees with rainfall totaling around .1″. Wind will be 10 – 20 mph from the South.

So far today the river flows are about where we started yesterday morning. So we’re in good shape for today. We’ll see some rain today with more coming overnight. The best and safest wade opportunities will be on the Beaverkill and Willowemoc. Floating is great on the East Branch, West Branch, and Mainstem. The wind may be an issue but so far it’s calm at 7 am so far. The clarity is fine in Home Pool this morning. Yesterday was a mix of Hendricksons, blue quills, and blue wing olives. Nymphing was best in the morning with the dries coming in the afternoon.

Our power has been restored. Yesterday fished well with nymphs and dries in the afternoon. The rumors are true and some river sections are seeing hendricksons mixed in with the olives and blue quills. We have sunshine this morning but the clouds are moving in. Today looks like a good day to be on the water. Water temps look good this morning and the cloud cover will be a bonus. The tailwaters are in great shape for floating. Wading is best and safest on the Beaverkill and Willowemoc.

Today looks gorgeous with the air temp hitting 70 degrees and light and variable wind. This is the lightest wind we’ve seen in a while. The water temps are looking good this morning and should spike up today. We should see decent bugs in the afternoon with a mix of little black caddis, stoneflies, blue wing olives, and some blue quills. While the water levels are dropping the tailwaters are still in great shape for floating but too high to wade. The best wading opportunities will be on the Beaverkill and Willowemoc. The spill over Cannonsville Dam is 313 cfs.
Today will be 74 degrees with a mix of clouds and sun. Wind will be light and variable.
