Delaware River Report / Conditions September 27, 2016
The West Branch is up slightly this morning but is still in good shape for wading and floating. The release from Cannonsville has been raised slightly to 594 cfs. We had some light rain overnight but it wasn’t enough to change the flows. The buildings are covered in small olives this morning which is a good start to Fall. Along with the olives we’ve been seeing more caddis and #14 isonychias. If the clouds stick around today we could see some decent fishing in the bigger pools. Winds will be light under 10 mph all day. We have light rain in the forecast from Thursday through Saturday night. If we keep the clouds and light rain going this could be a very good weekend to be on the water.

The release from Cannonsville is 521 cfs this morning. The cold nights have really helped the water temperatures on the lower East Branch and Mainstem and everything looks good this morning. The weather looks great today with clouds, air temperatures in the high 60’s, and some light rain tonight. Winds will gust around 10 mph. Isonychias and olives are the main hatches now with a few light cahills still around. The fall caddis hatches seem to be coming on offering some fishing when the get stuck on the water.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 25, 2016
The West Branch release has been dropped slightly again to 574 cfs but is still floatable. Today will look much like yesterday: sunny and moderate during the day with a cool night. The nights have helped dropped the water temperatures, even on the low water of the East Branch. Olives and Isos have been working well, but make sure your box has flying ants and small dark Caddis. Lower water should make nymphing productive, even with the sun.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 24, 2016
Another drop in the release from Cannonsville brings us to 627 cfs this morning. A less drastic drop like this shouldn’t make the fish as cranky as the large drops in release and the river is still in good shape for wading and floating. The cooler nights are here to stay, keeping the river temperatures at a great level for trout fishing. Olives and cahills remain the mayflies to watch for but keep some isonychias and flying ants on hand. Nymphing should be productive with the slight drop in water level today.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 23, 2016
The release from Cannonsville has been dropped to 741 cfs until further notice. We are not sure when it will change again or what direction that change will be but right now it looks decent for floating and wading. It’s going to come down to downstream flow targets and potential releases from Lake Wallenpaupack and Rio Reservoir. Olives and cahills are still the main hatches followed by isonychias and flying ants. If you see the hatches and no fish move around a bit and check other areas. The drop in flow on the West Branch may help the dry fly fishing offering the fish more soft water rise in. It is still high enough that streamers may work well. Nymphing should also improve as the river drops.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 22, 2016
The release from Cannonsville is 1,142 cfs this morning. Most of the runoff has subsided and the flows are steady. The West Branch has the chalky color we get in the Fall but the fish do not mind. Streamer fishing has still been decent with the higher release. We are seeing some olives, cahills, and isonychias hatch- particularly in shaded areas in the afternoons. Flying ants are still around too. The cooler nights have helped the water temperatures and it’s really beginning to feel like Fall. The next few days look decent with some clouds coming in tomorrow. Air temperatures will drop but still be comfortable through the weekend.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 21, 2016
The release from Cannonsville is 1,151 cfs until further notice- which could mean anything. Water temperatures are down a little this morning due to the cooler night and increased release hitting the lower West Branch and upper Mainstem. The weather looks pleasant for the rest of the week with sun, a few clouds, low winds, and a slight chance of rain on Saturday. We are still seeing small olives and cahills mixed with flying ants. There have been flushes of isonychias but they have been hard to predict. Streamers have been the best bet with the higher water and chalky color of the West Branch. Nymphing should be better on the upper Mainstem with the relatively lower water conditions.

Unbelievable. The Cannonsville release has been raised to 1,137 this morning. This is after a drop to 300 cfs from 1500 cfs over the last couple of days. Any recent press about them caring about the downstream users is total BS. Wading will be tough on the West Branch today. There are a few pools that are fishable without a boat. Streamers fished the best yesterday but there were some flying ants on the water. The Mainstem started to warm up a bit yesterday but the additional release this morning will drop the temps again. There is a little color on the West Branch but it is fine for fishing. The lower Main has some mud color but will clear as the release hits it today.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 19, 2016
The release from Cannonsville is now 300 cfs. We were hit with decent rain overnight and the flow at Hale Eddy is 2,040 cfs. It is still rising but will will drop as soon as the rain stops. The flow at Stilesville is only 331 cfs this morning and perfect for wading. The rain should clear out by mid day with maybe a little sun poking through. Today looks like a good streamer day but there are a lot of olives on our door. At this flow look for risers on the edges and the tailouts of long pools. Once the rain stops the West Branch should drop and clear quickly. It looks like the East side of the drainage was spared most of the heavy rain with just a bump in flow on the Beaverkill and lower East Branch. The West Branch above the reservoir is flowing in over 2000 cfs which is great news for the reservoir watchers.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 18, 2016
We woke up to a nice light rain this morning. Most of the rain should soak right into the ground so we are not expecting a major change in the river flows. If we get the inch predicted we may see a larger change on the East side. If there is a large change during the day we’ll do an update. There is some fog on the water but that should burn off in the next couple of hours. The release from Cannonsville is 473 cfs. Most people seemed to be throwing streamers yesterday but there was a decent mix of olives, cahills, and some isonychias hatching. Overall today looks like it will be a good fishing day.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 17, 2016
The release from Cannonsville has been decreased to 548 cfs this morning. The drop began around midnight last night. The West Branch will be in decent shape for wading and floating today. Yesterday was a mix of olives, cahills, and isonychias depending on the river section. The olives seemed to be the heaviest hatch that brought the fish to the surface. Streamers worked well while the water was high. Tomorrow may still be a decent streamer day if the rain hits us. We should see sun today with some clouds moving in during the late afternoon. There is a slim chance of a light shower with wind gusts peaking around 12 mph.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 16, 2016
We still have 1,500 cfs at Stilesville this morning. The West Branch is tough to wade in most areas. We do have the chalky color we get in the Fall but it does not seem to bother the fish. Water temperatures are starting off a little lower today after another cool night. Streamers are working well but the dry fly fishing is improving. We are seeing some of the fall isonychias start up plus cahills hatching. There are a lot of small olives out there too. We’ve been finding most of the risers in slow pools towards the tailouts. Some riffles are fishing on the Mainstem with the late afternoon isonychias. Look for shaded areas. We should see air temperatures in the low 70’s today with winds under 10 mph. Bright sun for next two days with clouds and light shower moving in for the late weekend.
