Upper Delaware River Report — June 18, 2010
Today we are expecting mostly sunny skies with a high of around 84º. Yesterday there was decent action up and down the West Branch on Sulphurs and Blue Winged Olives during the day. The Upper West has been fishing slightly better earlier in the day and the evening has been about the same no matter where you end up. Today I would expect Sulphurs, BWO’s and Caddis during the day today. If there is nothing rising during the sunny portions of the day try nymphing with a pheasant tail or prince nymph.  Flows and Temps continue to hold steady throughout the system.

Upper Delaware River Report – June 17, 2010
The cloudy weather has decided to stick around this morning, and the fishing conditions are looking great. Expect partly cloudy skies for the rest of the day with temperatures in the 60s. Recent conditions have done the water temperatures well, making all parts of the Delaware River system fishable. The West Branch is up and flowing good, and with the extra water should continue to fish well. We continue to have reports of good hatches and rising fish throughout the day.

Upper Delaware River Report – June 16, 2010
Today should be another great day for fishing, with cloudy skies and showers throughout the morning and early afternoon, and scattered thunderstorms from early afternoon on. Cannonsville bumped up their release rate 90 cfs to 415. With this increase, expect the West Branch to hold pretty steady around 500 cfs. Fish were rising throughout the day yesterday, with good hatches of BWOs and Sulphurs. If you aren’t seeing rising fish, try throwing an Iso or March Brown pattern along riffles, or fishing streamers in the faster water.

Today looks like it is going to be mostly sunny throughout the day. Expect to see BWO’s in the morning and potentially through the day, also sulphurs have still been in the air and on the water on and off during the day the past few days. The lower West Branch saw good caddis action during the second half of the day. Flows, water temps, and clarity on are the West Branch is still looking great. The East Branch is starting to get back down to a more typical flow after it got hit hard by heavy rain 2 days ago. The Main Stem looks good but has warming up into the high 60’s during the day.

The flows are up and the skies are cloudy, which means today should be a great day to fish. The recent rain has brought the river up to some of the best levels we have seen in weeks. The water clarity has also changed from clear to stained which is another good sign that the fish will be eating. BWO’s and Sulphurs are still hatching well, so be sure to check the size of the fly your rigging up. If you happen to run into a patch of fog try blind casting an Iso or throw a streamer at the banks.

The West Branch had another good day yesterday. Reports came back with fish rising all day long. However we did get some much needed rain in the evening that continued into the night bringing with it some dense fog, which brought the visibility down significantly. Today should continue to fish well with the overcast skies and a 50% chance of rain. If the fog persists today, try blind casting an Iso or throwing streamers at the banks. Otherwise keep an eye on the water for BWO’s and Sulphurs.

Thunderstorms are in the forecast for the next three days, which will help keep water temperatures down. Today, we are expecting rain and cloud cover for the entire day. Although flows are still dropping on the East Branch, water temperature is back down into the 60s. Reports from yesterday are that the West Branch and Main Stem continue to fish well, with plenty of targets and lots of bugs on the water from morning until evening. Look for BWOs, Sulphurs and Isos to be the predominant hatches of the day.

Today looks to be partly cloudy throughout, with a slight chance of quick showers right at noon. We should also have lower winds than the past few days. This weekend brings with it hopes for more rain, with Saturday and Sunday both calling for a 60% chance of precipitation. The West Branch has been fishing very well, and we’ve heard many good reports from anglers who have seen lots of insects on the water. The East Branch and Main Stem are both fishing good too, and with lower water temperatures, this is a great opportunity to fish them as well.

Upper Delaware River Report – June 10, 2010
Expect partly cloudy weather early on today, with light showers in the forecast for mid-afternoon. Yesterday’s slow rain and lack of sunshine helped give all parts of the Delaware River system a much-needed cool down in water temperatures. The rain has also added some color to the water, which in addition to the higher flows, should make for good streamer fishing. On the surface, look for fish rising on Sulphurs, Isos, BWOs and Caddis throughout the day. Consider bumping up your tippet to a larger size in this slightly off-color water—it could make all the difference in landing that trophy trout.

Upper Delaware River Report – June 8, 2010
Water temperatures are still on the decline with the cool night time air, with highs in the low 70’s to upper 60’s for the next few days the fishing should become far more productive than it has been. Try and get out on the river a little earlier tonight, with temps in low 50’s the fish should start rising sooner than what the recent trend has been. Still try Nymphing and Streamer fishing during the day if the sky is clear. Sulphurs and Caddis are still hatching in good quantities, so be sure to check what bugs are coming off. If you can’t get them to eat a Sulphur or Caddis, don’t hesitate to try an Iso or a Rusty Spinner.

Yesterday’s prediction held true, as anglers saw good action on streamers early in the day. Fish were rising later on and the Sulphurs continued to hatch in good numbers. Recent weather has helped continue to cool down water temperatures, making parts of the Upper Main Stem fishable that were previously too warm. Water all over is still slightly off-colored due to recent rains, so take advantage of reduced visibility by getting closer to your target and making shorter, more accurate casts.

Upper Delaware River Report – June 6, 2010
Rain overnight has brought higher flows and slightly cooler water all across the board today. These higher flows, combined with off-colored water and overcast skies, should be a perfect opportunity to bring out the streamers. Fish them as close to the bank as possible and be ready for a strike. However, don’t rule out the possibility of dry fly fishing. With low-visibility you may even be able to get away with throwing flies on 5X tippet. Also, make sure to take your rain gear with you today, as the chances of precipitation are pretty high throughout the day.
