Delaware River Report / Conditions June 14, 2011

The predicted rain never materialized yesterday, but we certainly did have great cloud cover and temperatures throughout the system. That being said, the fish on the West Branch yesterday were SPOOOOOOOOKY – almost feels like the old days before we had a flotilla of drift boats on the water. Approach carefully, and make that first shot count!

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 13, 2011

Rain and cloud cover yesterday gave us a GREAT day on the West Branch and upper main stem. Bugs were abundant (cornuta, dorthea, isos), and fish were slaughtering any isonychias that came their way. The cooler temps are continuing today, as well as the cloud cover. With the East Branch (and therefore ) the Main Stem clearing even further, we are looking at what could be a banner day!

    Delaware River Report/ Conditions June 12, 2011

Rain, rain, and more rain! We had more rain last night, which has resulted in a quick rise in water flows and discoloration of the water. The levels are dropping just as quick as it rose and the river should clear up as the day goes on and be in shape for the evening fishing. The forecast for the next few days is more rain, heavy cloud cover, and cooler temperatures, which should bring the Main Stem and East Branch back to appropriate temperatures yielding good bug activity. Yesterday, there were reports of dorotheas, pseudos, cornutas, and occasional isonychias.

Rain! Hallelujah! We had rain overnight, and it has continued to be cloudy and rainy this morning, which has yielded better river temperatures downstream towards the main stem, while having very little effect on the flows. The forecast calls for clouds all day – perfect for mid-day hatching. The dortheas and cornutas came off strong in the morning yesterday, with the typical 30 min at dark. With perfect olive weather we expect to see those same cornutas throughout the day today.

Delaware River Report / Condtions June 10, 2011

Super late update today, our blog did not want to cooperate with us this morning – apologies! Flows are current as of 4:00 PM

Big storms last night blasted us with rain and wind, but also brought much cooler temperatures as well, along with lower humidity, making our lives SO much better here on the West Branch. We had several floats go out after the storm, and bugs were to be found, as well as fish eating them. Today we had some clouds in the morning, and a cool overnight, so we’re starting with lower temps – always a good thing.

A quick note: Look to your right ————-> The RSS feed should be back if you want to subscribe!

Yesterday was pretty warm, but the water temperatures managed to stay pretty decent, even into the upper main. Everyone saw bugs, including Isos on the West, Cornutas on the West and main, and Dortheas everywhere. Charcoal caddis were also reported on the upper West Branch, with fish actively feeding on them. HOT weather in the forecast, so check temps on a regular basis to make sure you are fishing in ‘safe’ (under 68 degree F) water!

Sun and heat – here we go again! Forecasts have us getting up in the 90s for the next few days, with periods of clouds and the occasional thunderstorm rolling through, we expect the middle of the day to be tough – summer on the Delaware is rearing its ugly head. That being said, we still have TONS of bugs coming off, which bodes well for the morning and evening fishing, which has been pretty decent over the last few days. Give us a call for the most up-to-the-minute details!

For some reason WordPress didn’t like our post yesterday, so we’ll start with a new one today. Flows are down on the West Branch, with a 500 CFS release out of the dam – great for wading! We have cool temps in the AM, so the action is starting a bit later. Drakes are still around, and we are anticipating a nice spinner fall any evening. Dortheas were a strong hatch on the main stem yesterday as well.

Apologies on the late post – the shop is ROCKING this morning!

Even with the wind yesterday, our guides saw some of the most prolific hatching that they had ever witnessed – a full blown green drake hatch on the upper West Branch. The fish had a hard time seeing them until late in the day when the breeze knocked off for the day. The forecast for today is amazing – cloudy & cool with little to no wind – EXACTLY what you want with these kinds of water temps and this level of bug activity. These are the kind of days where we in the shop grind our teeth wishing we could be out on the water! 6:00 can’t come soon enough!

A great day for sailing yesterday, until the evening – the wind laid down, and the fish took full advantage! A fantastic evening of Delaware fishing repaid those that braved the high winds of the afternoon – sulphurs, green drakes, brown drakes and even the occasional Iso! The winds are supposed to calm down for the afternoon, and hopefully the action will continue as a result! Give us a call for the most up-to-the-minute reports!

The heat has broken here in Starlight – unfortunately, the wind has taken its place. We are looking at northwest winds (mostly downstream) at about 15MPH, with gusts in the 40MPH range. Not ideal dry fly conditions, but the pressure change should get the bugs up and moving, and the influx of cold water from Cannonsville can only help as well!

    WATER!

Ding dong, the wicked old FFMP is dead! We have a new flow regime starting today. Until futher notice, Cannonsville Reservoir will be releasing at least 600 CFS, which will bring a much-needed surge of cool water into the system. Spillage is slowly fading from the top of the reservior, so this bodes well to keep the water levels both up and cool! Call us for the most up-to-the-minute info, and see below for the Stilesville (closest USGS station to the dam) graph:
