Delaware River Report: July 14, 2023
The aqueduct work has been pushed off again. It is now scheduled for Fall of 2024.
We had some rain overnight and the flows are up slightly this morning. Oquaga Creek ha a;ready peaked at 60 cfs and is beginning to drop. The West Branch should peak soon and begin to drop too. The flow at Hale Eddy is still under 700 cfs and is in decent shape for wading and floating. Homepool is clear. We may see some additional storms this afternoon. Keep an eye on the radar to see where they’re tracking. Streamers are working well in low light. Small sulphurs, olives, and Isonychias are making up the bulk of the hatches.
The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and Mainstem at Lordville will peak over 70 degrees today. It’s time to give these sections a break and fish the colder water.
Today will be 79 degrees with some clouds in the morning with possible thunderstorms in the afternoon. Wind will be light and variable.

The aqueduct work has been pushed off again. It is now scheduled for Fall of 2024.
The release form Cannonsville is a steady 500 cfs. The rivers are dropping from the rain and the flows have pretty much leveled out. We have some cloud cover this morning with another afternoon of potential thunderstorms. total rainfall should be .15″. We’re seeing the mid day sulphurs and olives in Deposit. It would make sense to have a couple of Isonychias in your box too The bugs have been hatching later on the lower West Branch with a mix of olives, Isonychias, a few sulphurs, and a few cahills. The algae is still bad on the upper river so if you’re nymphing stay below Hale Eddy.

Another day in July and another chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Total rainfall should be a negligible .16″ but the clouds will be welcome after yesterday. Most of these storms slide around us on the West Branch anyway but keep an eye on the radar justin case. The best bet for dry fly fishing during the day will be in Deposit with a mix of sulphurs, blue wing olives, and a few Isonychias. The lower West has less algae is the best bet for nymphing. We should see olives, a few cahills, a few sulphurs, and Isonychias when the sun starts to drop.

The rain missed us here on the West Branch so we’re starting off this morning a little lower than yesterday. We’re still in god shape for wading and floating. Today we’re back to sunshine and warm weather. the best bet for dry fly fishing during the day will be in Deposit with a mix of sulphurs, blue wing olives, and a few Isonychias. The West Branch looks fine this morning despite yesterday’s rain. The flow at Hale Eddy is 643 cfs – so only about 30 cfs higher than yesterday morning. Homepool is clear. The flows are up more in the Eastern drainage. The West should fish like normal with daytime sulphur and olive opportunities in Deposit and evening dry fly opportunities with Isonychias, cahills, and a few sulphurs on the lower west once the sun starts to drop. If we do get rain the bugs could push earlier on the lower West. Nymphing is still best on the lower West due to the algae in the upper river,

If Wunderground is correct we should see .64″ of rain today with an additional .86″ overnight. If the water turns off color streamer fishing couldbe very good. And keep an eye on the Stilesville gauge. The West Branch above Oquaga Creek generally stays in good shape regardless of any weather event. Plus it’s always hard to predict the paths of thunderstorms up here so keep an eye on the radar, We have some midday sulphurs and olives in Deposit. Nymphing is best on the lower West due to the algae in the upper river. Isonychias, olives, and a few cahills on the lower West.

The aqueduct work has been pushed off again. It is now scheduled for Fall of 2024.
Yesterday we were hit by some isolated storms that colored the West Branch. They rain ended early enough that we look fine this morning and the flow is just about back to where we started yesterday morning. Visibility is not an issue in Homepool this morning. We have some midday sulphurs and olives in Deposit. Nymphing is best on the lower West due to the algae in the upper river. Once the sun drops we’re finding Isonychias, olives, and a few cahills on the lower West.

Delaware River Report: July 6, 2023
The aqueduct work has been pushed off again. It is now scheduled for Fall of 2024.
The release from Cannonsville was increased to 750 cfs. This looks like s temperature release since the flow at Montague NJ is just under 5K. The West is still in good shape for floating and wading. There is algae in the water making nymphing tough up towards deposit. The increased release may knock more algae loose and could take a day to flush through. There is much less below Hale Eddy. There are daytime sulphur hatches on the Upper West. The lower West was sparse yesterday until the sun dropped. Hopefully the colder water and potential afternoon thunderstorms push the bugs a little earlier.
The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and Mainstem at Lordville all peaked over 70 degrees yesterday. It’s time to give these sections a break and fish the colder water.

The rain held off until evening. Dry fly fishing was slower than we expected during the day but picked up in the rain. Olives, sulphurs, and Isonychias. Additional rain fell overnight and the river flows are up this morning with the flow at Hale Eddy hitting 900 cfs. It looks like it peaked and should begin to drop soon if the other thunderstorms miss us. There is a slight tint to the water but visibility is fine out front. The slight color could actually help the fishing today.
