Delaware River Report / Conditions October 7, 2021
Today looks like a good day with light wind and good cloud cover. Most people have been fishing streamers early and finding some fish rising later in the afternoon. There are a lot of Pseudos hatching plus some Heptagenia and Isonychias. Look for rising fish in slow sections. At these water levels it’s tough for the fish to set up in a lot places. The Beaverkill is just over 1,000 cfs this morning so barring anymore rain we should see some wade opportunities open up there over the next few days. The headwaters of the Beaverkill and Willowemoc should offer some wade opportunities today. The West and East Branch flows will stay high until the releases are cut back. The color of the West Branch will also improve when the release is cut back.

Delaware River Report / Conditions October 6, 2021
We woke up o some light rain this morning. That should end shortly and should not add any additional runoff to the rivers. The West Branch is still high and off color. The East Branch and Beaverkill flows have dropped a lot. Everything is still too high for safe wading. The upper stretches of the freestones should be fine for wading this morning. Most people are catching fish on streamers early and olives in the late afternoon. We should see 68 degrees today with little wind and decent cloud cover. The 10 day forecast does not show any significant rain so the river flows should continue to drop.

The river flows are up throughout the system due to yesterday’s rain. The rivers are off color but should clear as they drop over the next few days. We shouldn’t see any appreciable amount of rain today but we should keep the clouds. Wind will be light and variable. A good day to throw streamers from a boat. There is always a shot at dry fly fishing on the West so bring that rod just in case. Long slow pools at these flows. Wading isn’t recommended on any of the rivers today. Some of the headwater streams would be the best bet.

2 PM update. We’ve had some heavy rain over the last few hours. Click on the links below to get the most up to date flow information.
We had some rain overnight and there is a light rain falling this morning. The Beaverkill flow is climbing so the East Branch flow will go up too. Oquaga Creek is rising slowly and is only 28 cfs this morning. We have close to 1″ of rain in the forecast. If that hits and the flows change dramatically during the day we’ll do a report update. Yesterday was a good day on the water with streamer and nymphs early followed by dry fly fishing in the evening. We mostly saw Pseudos hatching but there were a lot of caddis in the bushes and a few Isonychias. The East and West Branches are still too high to wade. The feeder streams and upper reaches of the Beaverkill and Willowemoc are your best bets. The West Branch has the normal Fall tint to it but it doesn’t hamper the fishing at all.

Yesterday was another day of streamers and some nymphs early followed by some late afternoon / evening dry fly fishing. We’re catching most of our fish on small olives but you will see some Isonychias, iso spinners, Heptagenia, a few cahills, and some caddis. But definitely have an olive tied on first. Today will start off sunny but we should see some clouds roll in during the afternoon. Maybe a few showers. Luckily the wind should not be a factor. The tailwater releases are keeping the East and West Branches high. It’s good for floating but wading is not recommended. The Beaverkill and Willowemoc have the best wade opportunities at this time.

Delaware River Report / Conditions October 2, 2021
Yesterday was pretty much as we expected with streamer and nymph fishing early with some dry fly action later in the afternoon. Olives are still our best producing dry fly. It was a good mix of sun and clouds. It finally feels like Fall with co0l nights and cool days. Definitely bring a fleece. Today will be warmer at 73 degrees. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South. The best wade opportunities are over on the Beaverkill / Willowemoc. The tailwaters are still running high with releases.

Delaware River Report / Conditions October 1, 2021
The flow on the West Branch remains steady so conditions are the same as yesterday. We have the normal Fall tint to water but it doesn’t bother the fish or the bugs. It does help the streamer fishing which is what quite a few people are doing until the olives start in the afternoon. The East Branch flow is also still high. It looks like they are trying to drop the reservoir levels so the releases may remain like this for a while. Wading is not recommended. The Beaverkill and Willowemoc are at great wade levels and we have heard some decent reports. All of the rivers have some combination of Isonychias, Heptagenia, cahills, caddis, and olives. The amount of each one varies by river but it’s worth having all of the patterns with you. Today will be sunny and 63 degrees. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 30, 2021
Yesterday was a good mix of clouds and sunshine. We did have some afternoon wind that made nymphing and streamers the best bet but it did die down in the evening. We’re mostly seeing olives with some heptagenias on the West Branch. The other rivers are a mix of olives, heptagenias, some isonychias, some cahills, and even a few white flies. The wind has made dry fly fishing tough over the last few days. The West Branch is high and we have that Fall tint in the river. It’s definitely clear enough for fish to rise. The East Branch is also high but dropping slowly. Wading is tough on both of those rivers. The Beaverkill and Willowemoc are still your best bets for decent wade conditions. Today will be a mix of sun and clouds with wind 10 – 15 mph from the North.

We had some rain yesterday morning that was probably the 1/4″ Wundeground predicted. The river flows didn’t budge but we heard there was some olive and Isonychia activity right after the rain. The sun popped out in the afternoon so it became a streamer / nymphing game. Once the sun dropped we started seeing olives and caddis with some fish eating on top. It’s a cool 44 degrees this morning but we should warm up to the low 60’s. Mostly sunshine with wind 10 – 15 from the North. The release are still high on both the West and East Branches. Wading is not advised. The West Branch also has the Fall tint we always get. That won’t change until the release is cut back. The Beaverkill and Wllowemoc offer the best wade opportunities right now.

The wind made fishing tough for a good part of the day yesterday. Wunderground may have underestimated their mph prediction. It did finally drop back in the evening giving some people a brief break. Overall it was a streamer and nymph day. The tailwaters are still high and tough to wade. The West Branch has it’s normal Fall tint but it has cleared a lot over the last few days. We see some people attempting it but we do not recommend it. The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls dropped below 1,000 cfs so there are definitely much better and safer wade opportunities on the other there. We should have decent cloud cover with 1/4″ of rain today. Wind will ne 5 – 10 from the North. Sounds like a good olive day.

The release from Cannonsville is still around 1,400 cfs this morning. Wading is still not recomended on the tailwaters or Mainstem but there is some wadeable water over on the Beaverkill and Willowemoc. The river flows are dropping very slowly. Nymphs and streamers are working early but we are finding dry fly shots in the afternoon in some pools. Mostly small olives with some heptagenias and isonychias mixed in. We may see a rain shower this morning but the amount of precipitation should be negligible. The cloud cover will be good. Wind 10 – 15 mph from the South.

The release from Cannonsville remains steady at 1,400 cfs. People landed fish on streamers and nymphs mid day and found some fish rising to olives in the afternoon. There are some Isonychias and cahills around too but small olives are the strongest hatch right now. There is still a lot of runoff pushing through the system and wading is not recommended. The Beaverkill and Willowemoc will offer the first wade opportunities over the next few days. Today will be sunny and 66 degrees. Wind from the North 10 – 15 mph.
