Delaware River Report: August 27, 2022
The release from Cannonsville was dropped yesterday and then increased again last night. The flow at Stilesville is a steady 907 cfs this morning. That’s still decent for wading and floating. There are some tricos around in the morning with mixed reports on surface activity. Streamers have worked early and and late in the day. The main hatch has still been the small blue wing olives with a few sulphurs, cahill / stenos, and Isonychias mixed in. Today will hit 80 degrees with sunshine and a few clouds. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.
The East Branch at Fishs Eddy and the Beaverkill at Cooks Falls both peaked over 70 degrees yesterday. Give these sections a break until we get cooler temps.

The release from Cannonsville was increased around midnight. The flow at Stilesville is 907 cfs this morning. So far it looks like it’s leveled off but click the links below for the latest flow information. There are still places to wade at this level- just pick your spots accordingly. Small olives have still been our #1 hatch ith the last of the sulphurs. Blind casting cahills / stenos and Isonychias also put some fish in the net yesterday. It’s the time of year to have flying ants and yellow sallys in your box too. We’ll have decent cloud cover by the afternoon with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. We’ll watch how those storms track. 83 degrees with wind 5 – 10 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report: August 25, 2022
Some sections of river had a decent fall of flying ants last night. Very small ants but some got on them in the flat water. They were mixed with the small olives as the sun dropped. We also saw a handful of steno / cahills and a few Isonychias. We’re seeing some tricos out there in the mornings. We haven’t had great reports on them yet but it’s worth having a few in your box. The release from Cannonsville stayed steady overnight at a reasonable 650 cfs. Good for wading and floating. Today will be a bit warmer hitting 85 degrees with sunshine. Wind will be light and variable.

They pulsed from Cannonsville around midnight and the flow at Stilesville is 722 cfs and falling. We’ll settle back into the500 cfs range. So the West Branch is in decent shape for wading and floating and the level will be dropping slowly this morning. We had some rain last night but it wasn’t enough to bump the flows. It did push small olives and most people found rising fish. It was still #18 and #22 olives for the most part although there were a few cahill / stenacrons and Isonychias on the water. Today will be sunnier hitting 82 degrees. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: August 23, 2022
The release from Cannonsville was increased slightly and the flow at Stilesville is 515 cfs. Not a big jump so the West Branch will look pretty much the same as yesterday. We had a few brief periods of rain but it soaked into the ground The larger thunderstorms missed us. Most of our fish were caught on small olives yesterday. There are still some sulphurs around mixed with cahills and Isonychias but the fish we found were on the little olives. We have some fog this morning and should see some rain showers today. Total rainfall should be a negligible .12″. 78 degrees with wind 5 – 10 mph from the West.

Delaware River Report: August 22, 2022
The release from Cannonsville was cut back to about 500 cfs. DEP is likely counting on the rain to meet the Montague Flow Target. If the rain misses or soaks into the ground we expect the release to increase. It’s going to come down to which way these storms track. We have some light rain falling this There may be some heavier thunderstorms developing but right now Wunderground is calling for .32″. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South. If you do fish today keep a close eye on the radar. Small olives and a few sulphurs worked well yesterday. There are also Isonychias and cahills around. We’ve seen an odd flying ant here and there but nothing major yet.

The release from Cannonsville was dropped but is now coming back up. It’ll likely settle back in around 1,100 cfs. We had some rain in the evening but it soaked right into the ground, DEP was likely counting on it adding more water to meet the Montague Flow Target. When that didn’t materialize they raised the release again. So we’ll probably be about the same as yesterday with spots that are good to wade and decent floating. Small olives are still our #1 mayfly with a few sulphurs mixed in. Cahills and Isonychias are definitely around too. It’s also the time of year to have a few flying ants in your box just in case. Today will be 86 degrees with clouds. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the South.

They did some minor adjustments to the Cannonsville release yesterday afternoon but we are essentially starting this morning off the same as yesterday morning. People are wading and floating at this level. Yesterday fished well with olives, some cahills, small sulphurs, and Isonychias. People also did well on terrestrials. We’ll start off with sunshine today but should see some clouds move in during the afternoon. There is a 30% chance of thunderstorms but the rainfall looks negligible at .09″. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South.

The flow at Stilesville dropped about 50 cfs which leaves us pretty much the same as yesterday. There is wadeable water but keep the flow in mind when you’re out there. We’re still fishing a lot of #18 and #22 blue wing olives with a few sulphurs and cahills. Blind casting Isonychias and cahills has payed off for some people in between hatches. Swinging wets has brought some fish to the net too. Today will much warmer hitting 85 degrees with sun and a few clouds. Wind will be light and variable.

Delaware River Report: August 18, 2022
We finally had a little rain yesterday afternoon. It wasn’t enough to bump the water flows but it was enough to make you wish you had a raincoat. But every drop that soaks into the ground helps. So the West Branch remains at the same flow as yesterday – 1,170 cfs at Hale Eddy. That still offers wade opportunities in some spots. Over the last couple of days most of our fish have come on either #18 or #22 blue wing olives. There are also still a few sulphurs and cahills around. Some people are reporting decent Isonychias on some stretches. Today will much 75 degrees and cloudy with a very slight chance of a shower. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.

The release from Cannonsville is steady at just over 1,000 cfs. This looks like a release to meet teh Montague Flow Target so we should see this stay until there is either a release downstream from another dam or we get some rain. There are still spots to wade at this level. Click on the gauge links below for the latest flow data. Some vegetation may get knocked loose but the amount should lessen as the day goes on. Yesterday fished well with nymphs early. We had decent olives in the afternoon mixed with some sulphurs, cahills, and a few Isonychias. Today will much cooler hitting 73 degrees with a chance of some showers. Total rainfall should be a negligible .08″. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.

It’s still normal fishing with the best daytime hatching up near the dam in the coldest water. The lower West is still fishing best early and late in the day. Today will be 82 degrees and sunny. There is a slight chance of an brief afternoon shower again today. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.
