Delaware River Report: April 12, 2022
The river flows continue to drop but remain high with spill and runoff. The Willowemoc should have some wade opportunities and the Beaverkill is getting close. The tailwaters are running high but are safe for floating. We’re seeing bugs but the flows are not ideal for dry fly fishing. The West Branch and Mainstem have big numbers of alewives from the spill. Hopefully the river levels continue to drop over the next few days. Today will be a warm 65 degrees with about 1/4″ of rain. Wind 10 – 15 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: April 11, 2022
The river flows have dropped but remain high with spill and runoff. We are floating the rivers again. Wading is not an option on the main rivers but it possible in the feeder and headwater streams. There are a lot of alewives in the West Branch along with some blue wing olives. It;s tough to find spots slow enough for the fish to eat the olives but that will improve as the flows continue to drop. That may take a few more days so it’s still mainly a streamer game. The Beaverkill is still too high to wade but is dropping too. The water temps are mostly hovering around 39 degrees. Hopefully they come up a bit with today’s sunshine and 60 degree weather. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South. The overnight low will only drop to 47 degrees so that will be a welcome change.

Delaware River Report: April 10, 2022
Today is another nonstarter. The river flows are dropping but still not safe to wade. Depending on your comfort level behind the oars we are getting to safe floating levels on the East and West Branches. The Beaverkill has dropped significantly but is still too high to fish at over 2,000 cfs. The headwater streams should be in decent shape in the next day or so. There are good numbers of alewives coming over the top of Cannonsville. Today will be cooler hitting 42 degrees. Wind from the North 10 – 20 mph. We may see a stray snow shower but it shouldn’t stick to the ground.

Today is another nonstarter. The rivers are not safe to fish. The spill over Cannonsville has increased and the West Branch is higher today than it was yesterday. The Beaverkill and East Branch have dropped a bit but remain way too high to fish. There is still debris floating down the rivers. We may see a little more rain this morning totaling under 1/4″. 48 degrees. wind 5 – 10 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: April 7, 2022
The rain started before 6 am this morning. The forecast is calling for close to 1″ over the course of the day. Keep an eye on the latest flows by clicking on the gauge links below. 1″ will bring the rivers up and may add some color by the afternoon. Cannonsville and Pepacton are both still spilling. If the rain hits above the reservoirs there will be a slight delay and then the spills will increase. Wading the main rivers is not an option so it’s another day of sticking to the Willowemoc or headwater streams. Watch for higher flows on those streams by this afternoon too. Streamers will be your best bet today. People have been finding sporadic rising fish but dry fly fishing has been a long shot so far. The air temp will hit 47 degrees with wind 10 – 20 from the South.

Delaware River Report: April 6, 2022
We woke up to a steady light rain this morning. Wunderground has increased the rainfall forecast to just over 1/2″ today. We will likely see the flows go up with runoff and maybe some color in the rivers by the afternoon. Cannonsville and Pepacton are both still spilling. If you’re wading it’s another day of sticking to the Willowemoc or headwater streams. Yesterday fished well with streamers in the afternoon. There were some sporadic risers in the long slow pools but they were tough to target. They’re still not consistent. The sunshine and rising water temps definitely helped. Today will be 55 degrees with rain, clouds, and wind 10 mph from the East. We have more rain in the forecast tomorrow so keep an eye on the radar and river flows.

Delaware River Report: April 5, 2022
Cannonsville and Pepacton are both still spilling. The Beaverkill is dropping slowly but is still over 1,000 cfs this morning. The rivers are in great shape for floating and throwing streamers. If you’re wading it’s another day of sticking to the Willowemoc or headwater streams. The East and West Branches will stay high with the spill for a while. Hopefully the Beaverkill continues to drop and any rain in the forecast misses us. There are some bugs out there but it’s still mostly streamer game. today looks like a nice day with some sunshine and the air temp hitting 58 degrees. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South. The low will hit 42 degrees tonight. Hopefully that will help the water temps.

Delaware River Report: April 4, 2022
We ended up with just under an inch of snow in the valley’s, closer to two in the mountains. Most of it melted already and we’re in for a nicer day today. It should hit 44 degrees with good cloud cover. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North. That will be lightest wind we’ve seen for a while. The cold snap and snow melt dropped the water temps back into the high 30’s throughout the system. If we keep the heavy cloud cover the rivers will take a while to warm up. Although we are seeing some bugs streamers will be your best bet again today. Some people are nymphing spots but streamers are bringing more fish to the net. Both Cannonsville and Pepacton Reservoirs are still spilling. Floating is the only safe option. The Beaverkill is still a little over 1,000 cfs. If your wading check out sections of the Willowemoc and the headwaters streams. Some little black caddis are showing up along with a few blue wing olives and stoneflies. The water is still cold and high for decent dry fly fishing but bring a dry fly rod just in case.

Delaware River Report: April 3, 2022
We woke up to a little snow falling this morning. It is only April 3rd. We should see about .25″ and then rain in the afternoon. The high will be 41 degrees so it shouldn’t last long on the ground. Wind will be 10 mph from the South. It definitely looks like another streamer day. Both Cannonsville and Pepacton Reservoirs are still spilling. The Beaverkill is just under 1,500 cfs and dropping. Wading the main rivers at these levels is not possible. If you’re wading stick to the smaller streams and headwaters again. Floating is fine. Yesterday fished well with streamers. We’ve been starting with dark colored streamers and switching to light if we don’t see any action after a couple of pools. Look for the warmer water temps in the warmest part of the afternoon to find the most active fish. The 10 day forecast shows some rain during the week but no more snow.

Delaware River Report: April 2, 2022
Both Cannonsville and Pepecton Reservoirs are spilling. The river flows are high throughout the system. Floating is your best option today. The Beaverkill is also high flowing just under 2,000 cfs. The West Branch has cleared quite a bit and looks good this morning. If you’re wading look to the smaller feeder streams or headwaters. Streamers and nymphs will be your best bets. Most of the fish we are catching have been mid afternoon during the warmest part of the day. Yesterday was typical early Spring with wind, a few periods of sleet, and a few periods of sunshine. today looks very similar including the sleet. The air temp should reach 48 degrees by mid afternoon. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: April 1, 2022
A new season! Our daily reports will be posted by 8 am from today until October 31st.
Over the last two weeks we’ve dealt with 65 degree days and white out blizzards. The 10 day forecast shows us settled in to some warmer weather mixed with a few rainstorms. We were hit with heavy rains last night and the river flows are up. The West Branch is off color. We’ll see a few more showers this morning with wind 15 mph from the North. Wading is not recommended. People have been catching fish on streamers and nymphs for a few weeks now and it looks like the fish had a good winter and made it through healthy. We are seeing some stoneflies and blue wing olives but the water temps need to come up a bit more for the dry fly fishing to really start. A few small charcoal caddis are also in the bushes. In the meantime stick with fishing underneath.
