Delaware River Report: September 30, 2022
We’re coming off a cold night but we should begin to warm into the 60’s today. The wind was tough early yesterday but it did drop in the afternoon. Fall is definitely here so it’s still a lot of small blue wing olives, Heptagenia, some Cahills, and Isonychias. There are definitely caddis on the bushes so they’ll be on the water at some point. Wundergound is calling for light and variable wind today which is certainly an improvement. We’ll see a little sun but mostly cloud cover with a high of 64 degrees.

Delaware River Report: September 29, 2022
We had a brief afternoon rain storm but it wasn’t enough to affect the flows. There were decent olives mixed with a few Isonychias and Heptagenias yesterday making it a good day to be on the water. We’ll have more sunshine today with the air temp only hitting 57 degrees. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the North. So the bugs will hatch in the afternoon again but try to find a place with a little wind protection. Wunderground shows the wind dropping in the afternoon so that should help.

Delaware River Report: September 28, 2022
We had some thunderstorms pass by us yesterday but they missed us. The rivers are still dropping slowly from the runoff and everything is in good shape this morning, We’ve been seeing good mix of olives and Heptagenia when the wind isn’t blowing. Today looks like a good day to be on the water with the air temp hitting 61 degrees, cloud cover, and wind 5 – 10 mph from the North. We may see a shower in the afternoon but total rainfall should be less than 1/10″.

Delaware River Report: September 27, 2022
The weather was a bit unsettled yesterday with storms passing through and patches of sunshine. Most of the rain missed us so the rivers are in good shape this morning and still dropping slowly from the rain we had the other day. Small olives mixed with a few Isonychias and cahills are making up the bulk of the bugs. Some river sections have had decent Heptagenia hatches at times. Nymphing has worked early. If that’s not your thing a dry dropper combo in the riffles isn’t a bad idea. And it is time to have your caddis box with you. Today looks similar to yesterday with the potential for some scattered afternoon thunderstorms. Total rainfall should be negligible. Wind 5 – 10 mph from the South with the air temp hitting 63 degrees.

Delaware River Report: September 26, 2022
We had a bit of rain yesterday but the thunderstorms missed us. There is a minor bump in flows but overall it;s negligible and the rivers look and and are in good shape for wading and floating. There was a decent hatch of small olives. We’re seeing some Isonychias and cahills still. There are definitely caddis in the bushes. If you have a good caddis riffle it may be a good idea to stake it out for a bit looking or sporadic risers. We have clouds this morning but should see some sunshine by the afternoon. 64 degrees with wind 10 – 15 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report: September 25, 2022
Yesterday was a nymphing day early with some dry fly fishing towards evening. Small blue wing olives mixed with a few Isonychias made up most of the hatch we saw. We’re starting off this morning with better cloud coverage and no wind. We should see some rain showers move in this morning and a possible thunderstorm this afternoon. Keep an eye on the radar for the thunderstorms but otherwise this sounds like a good morning to be on the water. Less than .25″ should fall today. The air temp will hit 63 degrees with 5 – 10 mph wind from the South. it certainly feels like Fall has arrived.

Delaware River Report: September 24, 2022
The wind was tough yesterday. Wunderground nailed it at 25 mph. Most people nymphed or threw streamers. Today looks much better at 5 1- 10 mph. We should have a better shot at finding fish on the small olives and caddis. Some river sections are seeing Heptagenia and this is always a good time of year to blind cast Isonychias and cahills through the riffles. The water levels have dropped back a bit as the runoff subsides. 65 degrees with a mix of sun and clouds sounds like a nice early Fall day to be on the water.

Delaware River Report: September 23, 2022
The Beaverkill, East Branch, and Mainstem flows are up quite a bit from yesterday’s rain. The West Branch is up slightly but is a nice 525 cfs at Hale Eddy. There is a slight tint to the lower West but it is fishable. The wind was rough yesterday and it was mostly a streamer day. Today looks similar with the temp hitting 54 degrees, a morning shower, and wind 20 – 25 mph from the North. The sun should poke through in the afternoon. Tomorrow looks much nicer on paper.

Delaware River Report: September 22, 2022
The rain started overnight and continues this morning. So far it’s been steady but not particularly heavy. The flows are up slightly but seem fine right now. The West Branch is clear out front as of 8 am. Click on the gauge links below for the latest flow data. Nymphing was the best bet again yesterday. People are finding some dry fly shots. Small olives are still the main hatch but there are still some cahills, Isonychias, and caddis around. Today will be much cooler only hitting 60 degrees. We’ll have clouds and rain most of the day. There will be some breaks in the rain and the total rainfall should be around 1/2″. Wind will be 10 – 20 mph from the North so choose your spot accordingly.

Delaware River Report: September 21, 2022
We’re coming off a cool night with some decent fog this morning. That should burn off in the next hour leaving us with a mix of sun and clouds. 78 degrees with wind 5 – 10 mph from the South. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible but seems unlikely. Keep an eye on the radar just in case. Nymphing was the best bet yesterday with some people finding a few fish on top. Small olives are still the main hatch but there are still some cahills, Isonychias, and caddis around. Blind casting riffles is your best bet if you don’t like nymphing. The better chance of rain comes overnight with the possibility of 1/2″.

Delaware River Report: September 20, 2022
We were hit with a quick thunderstorm yesterday that added some runoff to the eastern drainage. The West Branch is starting this morning pretty much where it was yesterday. There is some fog on the river now but it looks like it will burn off quickly. Today looks a little better from a weather standpoint with cloud cover and a much cooler air temp at 70 degrees. Wind will be up a bit at 10 – 15 mph from the North so keep that in mind while picking your spot. Small olives are still the main hatch but people are doing well with Isonychias and cahills in the riffles. Some river sections are still seeing some white flies in the evening.

Delaware River Report: September 19, 2022
The release from Cannonsville remains around 300 cfs. Cool nights have kept the river temps in check. Yesterday was a mix of sunshine with some clouds. A little too much sun at times. People found some fish on small olives but a lot of the fishing was subsurface again. Today we have a weather change with cloud cover early with potential storms in the afternoon. According to Wunderground the total rainfall for us will be 1/4″. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South with some higher gusts possible. Overall it sounds like a good day to be on the water fishing olives in some wind protected areas.
