Delaware River Report: August 13, 2022
Today is the 6th Annual Get Trashed in the Catskills River Cleanup. If you’re in the area and want to participate let us know. The cleanup kicks off around 10 am here at the flyshop. We had a great turnout at last night’s Iron Fly to kick off the weekend.
The release from Cannonsville is steady at 650 cfs for the second day in a row. The little extra water is nice and is still great for both floating and wading. Small sulphurs, olives, and cahills are still making up the bulk of the bugs on the upper river sections. We’re coming off another 50 degree night so it’s a comfortable morning and the water temps have dropped a bit. Today will be sunny and 76 degrees. The wind will be a bit less than yesterday at 5 – 10 mph from the North.
The East Branch at Fishs Eddy, the Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, and the Mainstem at Lordville all peaked over 70 degrees yesterday. Give these sections a break until we get cooler temps.

We got another slightly larger pulse from Cannonsville last night but the flow levels have already dropped back. The hatches have been best in the cold water near the dam mid-day with small sulphurs and cahills. Or wait until the sun drops a little lower on the West Branch and bring your olives. There are a few caddis around so that might be worth a shot on picky fish. Today will be a copy of yesterday’s weather with a chance of storms in the afternoon.

We have some fog this morning but that should burn off. A few clouds will come in with a few afternoon showers. Overall today sounds like a good day to be on the water. We’re still seeing small sulphurs and cahils in the coldest river sections. The lower West had a fair number of small olives and a couple of cahills towards evening. Plus a couple of Isonychias that may make it worthwhile blind casting riffles. The air temp will hit 83 again with wind 5 – 10 mph from the North. Hopefully we do some rain and it pushes the bugs to come a little earlier in the day.
