Delaware River Report / Conditions September 25, 2020
The release from Cannonsville has been increases a bit and the flow at Hale Eddy is 540 cfs this morning. Everything looks good for the weekend. Today will be 79 degrees with some sunshine. Wind should not be a factor at 5 – 7 mph from the South. Yesterday fished well most of the day with a mix of caddis and olives early joined by some hebes late in the afternoon. Some people are finding fish on isonychias and still a few flying ants.
There is some color in the West Branch from the release. The cloudiness will increase if they raise the release. It happens every Fall when the reservoir begins to turn over.

The wind was tough during the day yesterday but it finally dropped back in the evening. The general plan has been olives and heptagenias in the flat water and caddis and isonychias in the moving water. So far that’s been working out. Nymphing has worked well with flies that match the size of the naturals hatching. Today looks great with 75 degrees, wind 5 – 7 mph from the West and few a clouds. So mostly sunny but with way less wind than yesterday.
We’re beginning to see a bit of cloudiness in the West Branch from the release. The cloudiness will increase if they raise the release. It happens every Fall when the reservoir begins to turn over.

It’s a bit warmer than we’ve seen for a few days at 42 degrees this morning. We should see 72 degrees by the afternoon with a mix of clouds and sunshine. The wind won’t be awesome at 15 mph but we had it yesterday and people caught fish. Hopefully id calms down in the evening again for the dry fly fishing. Tiny olives, heptagenia, and caddis patterns should definitely be handy. Isonychias are also around so have a few of those. When the wind is up try swinging wets trough some of the riffles. Fall is always a good caddis time.

We’re coming off another cool night but will warm up to 67 degrees this afternoon. The low tonight only drops to 47 degrees so we’re done with the frost at least for one day. Today is going to be windy with 10 mph from the North with gusts closer to 20. There are still enough leaves on the trees you can hide a bit. Nymphing and swinging wets may be the best choice but if you can find flat water there should be olives and heptagenia hatching in the afternoon. Some isonychas are around and the caddis seem to really be picking up.
We’re beginning to see a bit of cloudiness in the West Branch from the release. The cloudiness will increase if they raise the release. It happens every Fall when the reservoir begins to turn over.

We woke up to another good frost. It’s chilly out but will warm up to the low 60’s with some sunshine this afternoon. Wind will be 4 – 5 mph from the South. Nymphing early with a shot at olives, heptagenia, caddis, and isonychias in the afternoon. We shouldn’t have any wind today which will be a bonus. The weather will warm up a bit over the next few days but still be comfortable.
We’re beginning to see a bit of cloudiness in the West Branch from the release. The cloudiness will increase if they raise the release. It happens every Fall when the reservoir begins to turn over.

The release from Cannonsville has been dropped back a bit leaving the flow 350 cfs at Stilesville. There’s another good frost this morning but we should warm up to 60 degrees today. Mostly sunny with wind 6 mph from the North. It sounds a lot like yesterday. Once the olives and hebes got going people were finding fish rising by mid afternoon. Today should fish a lot like yesterday.
We’re beginning to see a bit of cloudiness in the West Branch from the release. The cloudiness will increase if they raise the release. It happens every Fall when the reservoir begins to turn over.

There is a good frost out there this morning. By the afternoon we’ll heat up to 59 degrees with good sunshine. Wind will be 6 from the North. Not a bad day to be on the water at all. The wind was not kind yesterday and lots of small olives were being blown all over the place. It did settle down a bit in the evening. Today looks so much better. Keep an eye out for tiny olives, heptagenia, isonychias, and caddis. The release from Cannonsville has been increased to just under 500 cfs. Most likely to meet downstream flow targets.
We’re beginning to see a bit of cloudiness in the West Branch from the release. It’s slight right now and doesn’t bother the fish. The cloudiness will increase if they raise the release. It happens every Fall when the reservoir begins to turn over.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 18, 2020
The clouds finally moved in during the late afternoon yesterday. The rain didn’t happen so all of the rivers are starting off about the same as yesterday. Water temps still look great due to the colder weather. Small olives are hatching in the afternoon and we’re seeing more and more heptagenia each day. Fish are eating both. Isonychias and caddis should round out your fly selection. Add a couple white flies if you’re fishing the Mainstem. We’ll hit 62 degrees today with mostly sun. There should be a few clouds moving in during the afternoon. The wind is going to pick up to around 15 mph in the afternoon but hopefully that drops off in the evening. That’s bringing the cooler weather since we’ll drop to 34 degrees overnight.

Yesterday was another decent day on the water with fish eating olives. We also had a few other reports of fish being caught on isonychias and heptagenia which is always great news in the early Fall. The colder weather has really helped. We’ll be a little warmer today at 73 degrees but the clouds should roll in during the afternoon. Wind should only be around 5 mph from the West. It looks like a really good afternoon to be on the water.

We’re coming off another cold night and the rivers are in good shape again this morning. We’re starting off at 40 degrees and should hit 69 by the afternoon. Sun with a few clouds. Wind will be 7 – 10 mph from the South. Sounds like another great early Fall day to be on the river. Yesterday was all about little olives where we were. By mid afternoon the fish were on them. There are a lot of young of the year fish in the river so watch the rise forms and you may have to hunt a bit for the bigger fish. There are also some caddis, isonychias, and heptagenia around so have those in your box too.

It feels great out there this morning at 39 degrees. We’ll warm up to 68 with sunshine this afternoon. The wind will be much lower today between 4 – 6 mph from the West. Despite the wind yesterday people found some fish eating small olives in the broken water. Definitely a good sign for Fall. Caddis are picking up too. The water temps throughout the system are starting off a few degrees cooler this morning putting all of the rivers in good shape.

Today sounds comfortable with a high of 67 degrees and a few clouds. Wind will be up a bit around 1o mph with gusts to 15 mph. Leaves are still on the trees so it’s possible to fish some wind breaks. The air temp drops back to 39 degrees tonight which should really help the rivers cool down even more. It’s still been a lot of tiny olives with a few cahills, caddis, and isonychias. Some river sections are still seeing some white flies towards dark. If the wind really picks up today nymphing may be the best bet. Think small nymphs to match the naturals.
