Delaware River Report / Conditions September 27, 2019
We had some light rain most of yesterday morning giving way to clouds with a bit of sun. The rain bumped up the flows on the freestones slightly, very slightly and they are dropping back this morning. The olive hatch seemed better yesterday than we’ve seen in a few days plus we had heptagenia, isonychias, and isonychia spinners on the water in the evening. Most of the yellow sallies we saw were in the air but the fish will eat them. The release from Cannonsville is 792 cfs this morning. The sun will burn the fog off mid morning and then we should hit 72 degrees with wind 5 – 10 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 26, 2019
The release from Cannonsville has been dropped slightly to 791 cfs. There’s a lot of micro release adjustment going on for the Montague flow target. Today looks like a good weather day for fishing. We have an 80% chance of afternoon showers with only .18″ of rainfall. We should have clouds, a high of 66 degrees, and wind 5 – 10 mph from the South. Hopefully that pushes the olive hatches a little earlier in the day. Otherwise nymphing and streaming fishing have been producing some fish. Blind casting isonychias in the riffles has also produced some fish lately.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 25, 2019
The release from Cannonsville has been increased to 882 cfs. Yesterday morning we had some oddball rain storms that were not in the forecast. It wasn’t enough rain to change the flows but the clouds did stick around longer than we expected. The wind was a bit of an issue at times but seemed to calm down in the afternoon. Keep an eye on the slower pools and tail outs with the smaller bwos and heptagenias hatching. The fish are eating and moving in some of these areas so be patient. We’ll be warmer today with the air temp reaching 75 degrees. Wind will not be a factor. The clouds should give way to sunshine this afternoon. We have some fog on the water that should burn off in the next hour or so. The color in the West Branch has not affected the fishing.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 24, 2019
The release from Cannonsville has been dropped to 730 cfs. We did have some rain overnight but it did little to the flows and mostly soaked into the ground. We have some clouds hanging on this morning but more sun will break through by the afternoon. The air temp will hit the high 60’s today. Wind will be out of the North 10 – 15 mph. The wind was a little stronger yesterday than they predicted but it seemed to drop in the evening. Olives, isonychias, and heptagenia should cover most of your needs. A few ants, caddis, and yellow sallies would be good to have too. Nymphing or swinging wets have been good techniques to land some fish until the hatches start. Match the size of the naturals with your nymphs.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 23, 2019
The release from Cannonsville has been increased slightly to 905 cfs this morning. Today we may see the best fishing weather we’ve seen in a while. We shouldn’t have any sun and we have a 50% chance of rain. The rainfall amount should total less than 1/4″. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South. We had some olives hatching last night along with some isonychias, ants, caddis, and heptagenia. It wasn’t heavy but there were enough bugs to get some fish eating on top once the sun dropped a bit. At dark we had a lot of Isonychia spinners.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 22, 2019
The release from Cannonsville has been decreased a bit to 806 cfs. The West Branch will drop slightly through the afternoon. Today will be hot with sunshine and the air temp hitting 85 degrees. Wind will be from the South 5 – 10 mph. The air temp should drop back to normal September numbers on Tuesday. There were fewer bugs hatching yesterday than we’ve seen lately. That was probably due to the quick increased release from Cannonsville. Hopefully things settle down and stay steady for the week. There were still enough bugs hatching to find fish eating in the evening. Olives, heptagenia, and isonychias were out. Nymphing worked but you had to work around the weeds floating through in the higher water.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 21, 2019
The release from Cannonsville has been increased to 967 cfs. We’re in a warm spell right now and the air temp should climb to 80 degrees today. Sunshine and no wind round out the forecast. We’ll be in this pattern until Tuesday when we get back to normal September weather. It felt that there were fewer bugs hatching last night but overall it fished well. Olives, a few cahills, isonychias, heptagenia, and caddis. Olives were the main hatch again. Definitely have your olive and isonychia spinners ready towards dark. Hopefully the higher release flushes some of the weeds out of the West Branch to make nymphing a bit easier.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 20, 2019
During yesterday’s mid day bright sun nymphing, wets, and streamers were the best bet. Enough sporadic fish were eating on top to make it worth keeping an eye out but sticking underneath was your best bet until the evening. Once the sun started to drop it was all about the olives. There were some heptagenia, some isos, some caddis, and even a few yellow sallies but mostly the water was covered in small olives. The flow at Stilesville is steady at 719 cfs. We should have the same sunshine as yesterday with a warmer air temp hitting 76 degrees. Wind should not be a factor.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 19, 2019
We’re starting off in the 40’s again and will hit 70 degrees this afternoon. Sunshine and wind 3 – 4 mph from the South. The release from Cannonsville has been increased a little to 687 cfs so the flow at Stilesville is 719 cfs. Not much of a change. Today pretty much looks like a repeat of yesterday. Nymphing was the best bet mid day but by late afternoon fish were beginning to show on small olives and heptagenia. A few caddis and yellow sallies were in the air but mostly mayflies on the water. Some river sections saw some isonychia spinners towards dark too. There’s no rain the forecast for the next few days and the feeder streams are really low. Any rain that comes soon will soak into the ground.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 18, 2019
The air was filled with Tricos mid morning yesterday. We were off before they hit the water but hopefully they did and someone was there. Olives came later in the evening but the fish seemed to be sporadic and in an eat and move in the slow tailouts mood. There were good Heptagenias mixed in for a bit plus a few isonychias. If you were patient the fish would come back around. Nymphing was the best option during the day. Once the sun hit the water it felt like Summer again.
We’re in the low 40’s gain this morning but it will warm up to the 70’s. We’ll have sunshine and wind 5 – 6 mph from the North. The release from Cannonsville has been dropped slightly to 656 cfs.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 17, 2019
The release from Cannonsville bumped up slightly over night and the flow at Stilesville is 771 cfs this morning. It’s 44 degrees this morning so water temps good great and there is just a little fog out there now. Wunderground is calling for sunshine, 72 degrees, and wind 5 – 10 from the North. Heptagenia, olives, isonychias, and a few caddis should round out the flies. If you’re fishing the Main until dark have some white flies in your box. Ants are around and we are catching fish on them. We just haven’t seen one massive fall yet. The sun may keep the dry fly fishing sporadic until the evening when the olives hatch. Nymphing and swinging wets may be good options during the afternoon. Blind casting large flies in the riffles can also produce.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 16, 2019
The flow at Stilesville is steady at 719 cfs this morning. We have a 50% chance of some rain this morning but the amount should be negligible. We may have some fog moving in and out until the rain clears out. We should see 70 degrees with wind 5 -10 from the North. The sun will break through a little and mix with cloud cover in the afternoon. This is a nice change after the sunshine yesterday. Olive sulphurs, isos, caddis, and olives will cover most of what you’ll see. Definitely have flying ants, cahills, white flies, and yellow sallies just in case. The bugs came a little later yesterday due to the sunshine but overall it fished well we found some nice fish.
