Delaware River Report / Conditions July 18, 2019
The West Branch came through the storms just fine and is fishable this morning. The creeks were off color last night but cleared quickly once the rain stopped. There is a tint in the river but visability for fishing is perfectly fine out front right now. The release from Cannonsville has been dropped back to 500 cfs. We have a little rain falling now but that should clear up. A few more storms may pass through in the afternoon but the predicted rainfall is only .04″. Hopefully the clouds stick around all day. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South. Olives, sulphurs, and isonychias should cover most of your fishing.
The lower West looks good this morning

Delaware River Report / Conditions July 17, 2019
Yesterday’s 20% chance of storms turned into some thunder and a few brief but heavy downpours going into prime time. That added some fog and made fishing difficult as the sulphurs were hatching. The flow at Hale Eddy bumped to 800 cfs but is already falling back this morning. The color looks good. The West should settle in like nothing happened if today’s rain misses us. Sulphurs, olives, and isonychias. The East side flows also bumped up but unless you’re fishing above Harvard they are all too hot to fish for trout. Wunderground is calling for thunderstorms this afternoon with 1/2″ of rain. These storms are usually hit or miss. If there is a big flow change due to runoff we’ll do another update.

Delaware River Report / Conditions July 16, 2019
The release from Cannonsville has been increased to 650 cfs. The West is still fine for wading and floating with the additional water. The bumped broke up some algae that was floating in Deposit last evening but hopefully that settled by now. This is likely a thermal release to help cool the rivers a little bit during today’s heat and sunshine. There has been no change to the release from Pepacton. We do have a small percentage chance of rain today but we’re likely looking at a partly cloudy sky. The air temp will hit 90 with wind 5 – 10 mph from the South. Find some shade midday for yourself and the fish. The increased release from Cannonsville isn’t enough to change the way he river has been fishing so look for daytime hatching on the upper West Branch and late afternoon evening hatching on the mid to lower West Branch. Sulphurs, little blue winged olives, isonychias, and cahills.

Delaware River Report / Conditions July 15, 2019
We’re looking at another hot day with sunshine until the rain moves in tomorrow. We should have a few clouds around with wind 5 – 10 mph from the Northwest. Sulphurs, olives, and isonychias are hatching plus a few cahills are around. Find the coldest water to see the midday hatches. The lower West is fishing well in the evening into dark. Mostly sulphur and sulphur spinners on the water. Look for shaded banks during the day. Nymphing and swinging wets have both been effective methods- especially in a riffle with a good drop off. Isonychia wets and smaller nymphs seem to be working the best for us.

Delaware River Report / Conditions July 14, 2019
Yesterday was another bright and sunny day. Small olives and sulphurs were hatching. There were small fish rising during the day with a nice one here and there. Shaded banks were definitely better. Nymphing and swinging wets seemed to work the best during the day until the sun dropped and the hatches picked up. Some fish were landed blind casting isonychia and cahill dries during the day but fishing underneath seemed more consistent. Today looks similar to yesterday. The sun is already out and the fog is off the river. We may see a few clouds roll through in the afternoon but the real break come Wednesday with some rain coming in.

Delaware River Report / Conditions July 13, 2019
There were no significant changes in flows overnight so we are starting off pretty much where we were yesterday morning. The lower West has been fishing well in the evening into the night with sulphurs, cahills, and isonychias. If you are fishing in the afternoon try swinging isonychia wets and nymphing drop offs and riffles. The very top of the East and the upper West Branch have had the daytime sulphur activity. The intensity of the hatch varies each day but there are bugs. On bright sunny days there are still fish eating on top. If you’re looking for big fish concentrate on shaded banks and edges and ignore the smaller fish feeding. Today will be in the low 80’s, sunny, with wind 5 – 10 from the West.

The storms missed us. Despite all of the warnings, phones going off, email alerts- they missed us. They hit both North and South of us- heavy at times but beyond a few sprinkles we’re starting off pretty much where we were yesterday. So the rivers are starting off pretty much where they were yesterday. The release from Cannonsville is 600 cfs. The sun is already burning off the fog. Start off nymphing or swinging wets. We should see the afternoon sulphurs hatch on the upper West and the evening hatch on the lower West. Blind fishing isonychias in the riffles can also work well this time of year.

Delaware River Report / Conditions July 11, 2019
Today is the day we finally get a break in the weather. We should have rain moving in around noon bringing good cloud cover. The air temp will stay in the high 70’s and the wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the South. We’ve been dry for quite some time so a lot of the rain should soak into the ground. We’re still seeing good sulphurs with a few isonychias, cahills, and olives. The best hatching on the lower West started around 7:30 last night. Hopefully today’s weather pushes it up into the afternoon. The upper rivers with the colder water is still your best bet for day time activity. The release from Cannonsville is 650 cfs.

The release from Cannonsville was dropped yesterday but then raised back up. The release is now 650 cfs this morning. The midday sulphurs are hatching on the upper river while the lower West has had great hatches on ce the sun drops well into dark. We’ve done well blind casting isonychias but wet flies and nymphs should work well in drop offs and edges. We’re coming off a cool night so it feels good outside this morning. The air temp will be in the low 80’s today with light wind and sunshine. We should have some clouds move in overnight and see some rain tomorrow. We need the rain and most of it should soak into the ground.
Dropping and increasing the release in the same day seems unnecessary

Delaware River Report / Conditions July 9, 2019
Today is going to be very similar to yesterday. Sunshine, low 80’s, and light wind. Mid day look to the colder water for the best hatching of sulphurs, olives, and a few isonychias. In the evening we should see hatches on the lower stretches of sulphurs, cahills, isonychias, and olives. We’ve seen some golden drakes around too. We’re coming off another cool night but the water temps are starting off the same as they did yesterday. There has been some activity in the mornings with caddis and some olive spinners. The hatching on the lower West has been going into the dark so don’t leave the river too early.

Delaware River Report / Conditions July 8, 2019
We had decent sulphurs hatching yesterday with some isonychias and cahills mixed in. There are some golden drakes around too. The risers were tough in the sunshine but they were theyre if you were patient. A lot of small fish are showing which is great to see but the big fish are still eating too. The clouds rolled in right around dark and are still out there this morning. They’ll give way to more sun in the next few hours and we’ll hit 80 degrees today. Wind will be 5 mph from the North. Last night was in the 50’s and tonight’s air temp should drop back down there again.

The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, the East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and the Mainstem at Lordville are all starting off today too hot to fish for trout. If you’re fishing for trout give those areas a break and fish in the cold water closer to the dams or the headwaters of the freestone rivers.

Delaware River Report / Conditions July 7, 2019
Most of the thunderstorms missed us yesterday so the flows this morning haven’t changed much. We has a couple of periods of cloud cover and light rain but the storms slid north and south of us. Look to the coldest water to find daytime sulphurs mixed with a few isonychias and olives. In th evening we should see cahills and caddis in the mix. If you’re up early look for spinners and caddis before the sun hits the water. Mid day it may be best to nymph, swing wets, or blind cast isonychias in the riffles. Today will be 80 degrees, sunny, with wind from the north 5 – 10 mph. The best news is the night time temps will drop back into the 50’s for the next few days.
