Delaware River Report / Conditions June 24, 2019
It seemed like yesterday took longer to get going than the day before but that was likely due to the bright sunshine. People did catch fish during the day but the fish seemed more reluctant to get steady. Shaded areas produced best early. There are still some green drakes, sulphurs, cahills, isonychia, and cornutas hatching. Today should be even better with good cloud cover, air temp in the mid 70’s, and wind from the South at 5 – 10 mph. The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls flow dropped back under 1,000 cfs opening up more areas or wading. The releases are still high and the night time air temps are still dropping into the 50’s keeping the rivers cold.

Yesterday fished well despite the early wind. There was a good mix of sulphurs, cahills, isonychias, caddis, plus a few left over green drakes. The higher releases of cold water and cool nights have really helped keep the water temps in good shape and the hatches going. The wind died down in the afternoon and the fishing turned on. Today looks like another great day to be on the water with the air temp hitting the high 70’s, winds lower at 5 – 10 mph from the North, and a mostly sunny sky. Look for shaded areas by early afternoon. If you can stay late have your spinners ready. The river flows are still dropping. The upper Beaverkill and Willowemoc are still your best bets for wading. People are finding a couple of spots on the upper East and lower Beaverkill too.

The river flows are dropping back slowly since the rain stopped. Wading is still tough on most of the rivers but you should find some wadeable water in the upper sections of the Beaverkill and Willowemoc. Water temps look great everywhere this morning. The rivers have color but they are fishable and are clear enough that fish will rise if the hatches show. We looking at a sunny day with winds from the North around 20 mph. We may see some some stronger gusts but hopefully they don’t last too long. The air temp should reach the low 70’s. Luckily there is no real rain in the forecast for a week or o- just a few showers. The rivers should settle down nicely and fish well with the higher releases.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 21, 2019
This week’s trend of rain in the morning continues today. This should be the last of it for the weekend, the next few days look nice and clear. We had some storms through the afternoon and evening on east side of the system. The Beaverkill is high this morning but is already starting to drop. Your best bet today is streamers in the morning and looking for bugs later on as we dry out. Floating is the safest way to fish until the river levels drop.

The release from Cannonsville has been increased to 1,499 cfs. That makes wading the West Branch more challenging. Your best bet will be the Beaverkill, it benefited from the rain earlier in the week.
Today we have some light rain falling this morning and a chance of thunderstorms later in the day. We’re still seeing the early summer mix of sulphurs, cahills, olives and some Isos. Evening fishing during the sunny days has been the most productive. With the drizzle and cloud cover today there may be more activity earlier in the day.

The worst of the rain went south of us yesterday and cleared out by early afternoon. The West Branch was clear and only had a small bump in level. However, the release from Cannonsville has been increased to 1,083 cfs this morning. Be careful if wading the West Branch. For a lower flow alternative, try the Beaverkill – the rain has kept it in good shape. There’s a chance of thundershowers in the forecast today so don’t forget your rain jacket. We’re still seeing a mix of caddis, sulphurs, cahills and olives with and occasional Iso mixed. Bring your spinners for the evening!

There’s rain falling this morning and a chance of heavier patches as the day progresses. The forecast is for 3/10″ and it should taper off in the afternoon. We’ll update the blog if we get more than the weatherman calls for. Yesterday we had a mix of clouds and sun. Nymphing was the best option with some dry fly action later in the day. Today might be a good day to use streamers in the morning, then switching tactics as the rain moves out.

The West Branch flow is already dropping after yesterday’s rain. It is clear enough to fish with just a tinge of color down here. The rain lasted most of the day but the feeders stayed clear until late afternoon. Once the rain stopped we began to drop and clear immediately so we came through that one just fine. Nymphing worked well early and then many people switched to streamers to finish out the day. There is no rain in the forecast today so we should continue to drop. The West Branch is already at a decent level for wading at 1,000 cfs . The air temp will hit 80 today with 5 – 10 mph wind from the North.

We have light rain falling now that should continue for most of the day. It should stay light though without any really heavy downpours. The wind should be 3 – 4 mph from the South with the air temp reaching the high 60’s. Hopefully the breeze is enough to blow the fog off the water. Good fishing weather. If the rain works out like Thursday we should see the hatching begin earlier. Sulphurs, green drakes, cahills, olives, the last of the march browns / gray fox (spinners), plus the isonychias. Today has great potential if the rain stays in check.

There were some bugs hatching mid day yesterday but the wind made casting difficult. We definitely had gusts to 30 out there. Things got better around 7 pm when the wind dropped and the caddis came out of the bushes. Today looks much better with winds only around 10 mph, some sun, and and the air temp reaching the high 70’s. We may see some gusts to 15 but it looks like the wind drops back down towards evening. Besides the caddis we are seeing good numbers of green drakes, sulphurs, cahills, and the beginning of the isonychia hatch. The last of the march browns and gray fox are still around too so have those spinners ready.

The rain let up by early afternoon leaving us with cloud cover and awesome conditions. Green d drakes, sulphurs, olives, and cahills were all hatching by mid afternoon. There were also a few march browns, gray fox and isonychias out there for good measure. There were a lot of bugs. In some spots it took the fish a while to switch to eating on top but that was probably due to the number of bugs in the water column. That made nymphing and swinging wets effective too. Today we’ll have more sun with the air temp reaching 70 degrees. Wind will be 10 – 20 from the North so try to find an area that’s protected. Hopefully they have that part wrong. River levels are good and water temps have fallen a bit over the last few days.

We woke up to some light rain this morning but sop far the river flows are still dropping. Overall we may see 1/2″ fall but it looks like it will be spread throughout the day. The cloud cover should help make the fish more comfortable to rise and hopefully push the olives to hatch. Wind will be 10 mph from the South and the air temp should hit 60 degrees. Yesterday was a mix of sun and clouds. People found fish rising but nymphing and swinging wets were definitely the way to go midday. The runoff and cooler temps have helped dropped the river temps on the System even keeping the Main at Callicoon at 66 degrees yesterday.
If we see any dramatic changes in river flows we’ll post a mid day update.
