Delaware River Report: April 29, 2022

Wunderground was pretty accurate with yesterday’s forecast. The wind was rough and it was cold. But people landed fish. Most people were nymphing and throwing streamers due to the conditions. Dry fly fishing was really tough but the bugs are hatching in the afternoon if you can find a wind protected area. The wind will be less of a factor once the trees leaf out. Blue wing olives, blue quills, and hendricksons are making up most of the mayflies. There are still some stoneflies and little black caddis on the water too. Today will be another bright sunny day. The air temp will hit 53 degrees with sunshine. Wind will be 15 – 20 mph from the North. So a lot like yesterday. Count on nymphs and streamers.

All of the river flows have fallen back. The West Branch at Stilesville is now 1,400 cfs. there are a few wade opportunities over here if you’re a strong wader and careful. We are still dropping slowly so the wading should improve over the next couple of days. The Beaverkill and Willowemoc are in good shape for wading.
