Delaware River Report: August 2, 2024

The release from Cannonsville was pulsed overnight to 800 cfs. It will be dropped back to 500 cfs this morning. The upper West will drop back quickly and we’ll see a slower drop through the afternoon on the lower West. Wading is still an option at these levels so we’re in good shape. We have some light rain this morning but not enough to bump the flows. There are still midday sulphurs and olives on the upper West. That’s still the best bet for dry fly fishing despite the rain and clouds. The lower West should fish well with nymphs and we should see more bugs earlier in the day due to the weather.

Today will be 84 degrees with light rain in the morning and possible thunderstorms in the afternoon. Total precip should be .27″ according to Wunderground. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South.

The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, the East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and the Mainstem water temps will climb too high in today’s sunshine. It’s time to give these rivers a break.
