Delaware River Report / Conditions August 23, 2020

Today is going to be a lot like yesterday except a couple of degrees warmer.  There was a pretty heavy fog on the river this morning but it is already beginning to lift at 7 am.  Wunderground is giving us a 20% chance of thunderstorms so we’ll be dealing with sunshine most of the day.  There are still some tricos out there in the morning.  Nymphing or swinging wets will be your best bet during the day.  In the evening we’ve been seeing some olives and caddis.  A few isonychias and cahills / stenos are around too.  If you’re looking for dry fly activity check the water temps and concentrate on areas that peak around 61 degrees or less.  Areas that peak in the mid 60’s are getting a lot of bugs after dark.

The lower Beaverkill, lower East Branch, and Mainstem temperatures are all peaking over 70 degrees.  Give those rivers a break until they cool down.
