The West Branch is now at a great level for wading and it is still possible to float with a flow of 543 cfs at Hale Eddy. Keep an eye on the daytime temperatures on the Mainstem. The combination of the lower West Branch release and the warm days caused the Mainstem at Lordville to peak at 65 degrees yesterday afternoon. Luckily we have some cool nights in the forecast that should help the system out. The West Branch temps are still in great shape with 52 degrees under the 191 Bridge in Hancock this morning. Look for the colder water for the best hatching over the next few days. We are still seeing the same mayflies on the water. Sulphurs, olives, cahills, and isonychias. We did see a nice flush of golden drakes yesterday but didn’t see a fish take them. The fish seemed to prefer the smaller cahills in #14. We’ve also seen small trico clouds on the river so definitely carry some spinners if you are out from early morning to early afternoon.
Hatching:
Slate Drake #12-2xl – 12 – Isonychia bicolor
Sulphur #18-20 – E. dorothea

PED / Pink Lady #14 – E. vitreus
