Yesterday was a tough one but fish were landed. For daytime hatches find the coldest water. You’ll mostly find sulphurs and small olives with the occasional isonychia. On the lower sections nymph and wets will definitely be better bets during the day. The runoff is subsiding so most of the river flows have dropped since yesterday morning. We’re in for a warm one today with the air temp climbing into the low 90’s. Wind will be 5-10 from the South. We may see some scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon but not much rain. There is a heat advisory today so bring lots of water and spend some time in the shade. The heat breaks Monday.
The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, the East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and the Mainstem at Lordville are all starting off today too hot to fish for trout. If you’re fishing for trout give those areas a break and fish in the cold water closer to the dams or the headwaters of the freestone rivers.
