Delaware River Report: July 27, 2023

The aqueduct work has been pushed off again. It is now scheduled for Fall of 2024.

The release from Cannonsville was bumped slightly and looks like 550 cfs. Not a huge change and we’re still in good shape for floating and wading. It was not increased for a flow target so it’s likely a thermal bump to “protect” the Mainstem. The fishing won’t change with an extra 50 cfs so normal July rules apply. The best dry fly fishing will be in the coldest river sections with midday sulphurs and olives. The algae is still there so if you want to nymph move below Hale Eddy. The lower West hatching is towards dark and into dark. Blind casting Isonychias and cahills in the riffles may work during the day.

The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and Mainstem at Lordville will peak over 70 degrees today. It’s time to give these sections a break and fish the colder water.

Today will be much warmer hitting 83 degrees with isolated thunderstorms in the morning and partly cloudy skies in the afternoon. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the South.
