The release from Cannonsville is 900 cfs. Once again the extra water is a pulse to keep the Mainstem at Lordville from exceeding 75 degrees in today’s heat. The release should be cut back at some point today. The West Branch is still wadeable just pick your spots accordingly. Since the releases have really been pulses and not consistent the best shot at dry fly fishing is still the coldest water on the Upper West Branch and Upper East Branch. Midday Sulphurs and olives are still starting sometime between noon and 2 pm. If they would keep the higher releases constant it would likely push bugs earlier on the lower West. Since they’ll likely drop the release the lower West will be better for nymphing or blind casting Isonychias or Cahills. The heat breaks tomorrow and we have some rain moving in.
The Beaverkill, Lower East Branch, and Mainstem water temps are still peaking in the mid to high 70’s. It’s time to give these rivers a break until they cool back down.
Today will be 90 degrees with sunshine and a few clouds. Some scattered thunderstorms are possible. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.
