Delaware River Report: July 8, 2024

The release from Cannonsville has been increased to 800 cfs. The release will be stepped down back to 500 cfs beginning at 8 am. This is likely to prevent the Mainstem at Lordville temp from exceeding 75 degrees. We’re in for another bright day. Sulphurs and olives in Deposit will be your best shot at midday dry fly fishing. There is algae up there and with the bump in release nymphing will be hard. Nymphing will be best on the mid to lower West after the algae settles. Towards dark we should see some olives, cahills, and Isonychias into dark. Sometimes the push of cold water can push the bugs a little earlier so there may be some afternoon dry fly fishing. Find the banks that get shade the earliest.

Today will be 89 degrees with sunshine. Wind will be light and variable.

The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and Mainstem at Lordville water temps are all starting over 70 degrees this morning. It’s time to give these rivers a break.
