Delaware River Report: June 2, 2023

We’re starting off with sun and hot temps again today but we should see some clouds roll in this afternoon. Today will be the last day of the heat and bright sun for a bit. We should drop back in the 70’s tomorrow. Any rain should soak right into the ground and not affect the rivers, but it’s definitely needed. The release from Cannonsville was increased slightly to 500 cfs. Nymphing will likely be your best bet in the bright sun until some shade hits some of he banks. Once the sun drops we are seeing a mix of bugs. Sulphurs, Light Cahills, March Browns, cornutas and Green Drakes are hatching. Dark Blue Sedges #14 are out in the evening (Psilotreta sp.). There are some coffin flies on the buildings this morning. The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and Mainstem at Lordville all peaked at or above 70 degrees yesterday, It’s time to give these rivers a break.

Today will be hot again hitting 90 degrees with sunshine early. We should see some clouds in the afternoon with a slight chance of the thunderstorm. Total rainfall should be negligible. Wind will be 10- 15 mph from the North.
