The Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Report 9/25/10

Today looks like it will be slightly breezy off and on throughout the day with partly cloudy skies, giving away to more sun later in the afternoon.  The release was increased and the river has come up a few hundred CFS, which a lot of times, will encourage a good streamer bite.  Use caution and choose your spots wisely if wading.  Olives and Caddis have been the most active as of late, but isolated hatches and spinner falls of fall Isonychia have produced good action at times.

The Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Club 9/24/10

This morning’s conditions look great and should last for another few hours, eventually giving way to blue skies and sun, reaching a high of 86 degrees today.  Caddis and Flying Ants are the most likely to be active on days like today, and possibly some Olive and Isonychia activity later in the evening hours as things start to cool off again.

Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Report 9/23/2010

Today’s weather and river conditions should make for decent fishing action today.  Partly cloudy skies and favorable water temperatures throughout the West Branch, East Branch, and upper sections of the Main Stem is what we are looking at going into the weekend.  The river is still stained from the fall turn-over of the reservoir, but certainly fishable. Streamers will likely be your best option, but keep an eye out for surface activity as the day goes on.

The Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Report 9/22/10

It is a beautiful morning and it looks like it’s going to be a nice day, turning into P.M. T-Storms by late afternoon though.  The dry fly action has picked up lately.  It has been Olives mostly, but Golden Drakes and Isonychia on the lower East Branch and the Main Stem, at times, have been producing good action. Flying Ants have all but finished, but don’t be surprised to find them out and about throughout the week. Lots of October Caddis around, but they waste no time flying inland so the fishing action can be as sporadic as this hatch, but it can make for some great opportunities when everything comes together for you.  The streamer fishing has continued to produce high quality fish and the action should keep heating up.

Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Report September 21, 2010

Today looks like it is going to be another sunny one, the forecast calls for highs in the low 70’s. Last night we saw temperatures in the low 40’s, these low overnight temperatures have created ideas water temps for trout on all three river systems. The East Branch this morning was running a cool 57 at Fishs Eddy. Reports of rising fish on a good numbers of pseudo have been coming in for several days now from the East Branch. The Main Stem and West Branch have also had their fair share of small pseudo in addition to several caddis. When fishing caddis try giving it a little twitch instead of a dead drift as some fish key in on a little movement.

The Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Report 9/20/10

Today is going to be a nice day with sunny skies and a cool fall breeze for most of the day. The same is expected for Tuesday.  The dry fly action picked up yesterday with good reports from both the East and West Branch.  There were Olives mostly on the East which has started to fish lately with good temperatures. A nice mixture of Olives and Flying Ants on the West had things brewing, and the streamer fishing has continued to produce.  The Main Stem is in good shape and over the past week has offered decent action with fair numbers of Isonychia, Golden Drakes, and various Caddis, including the October Caddis.

Temperatures are looking good across the board for a while now, and the fishing has picked up considerably in a lot of sections that have been too warm most of the summer.  Insect activity continues to be relatively sporadic, but has created some good dry fly opportunities at times, and is occasionally really good!  Isonichia, some Golden Drakes, and some left-over White Flies have had the Main fishing decent, with a mixture of Caddis as well.  October Caddis have also been scattered throughout the system in respectable numbers.  Olives probably remain the most predominant hatch as of late, which is pretty typical for this time of the year.  Flying Ants and Tricots may still be found, but have been noticeably waning this past week.  Don’t be surprised if these hatches have a few really productive days left though. Streamers continue to be very effective with the higher water levels and low visibility.

Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Report 9/19/2010

Today we are expecting mostly cloudy skies with a chance of some evening showers and highs in the low 70’s. Cannonsville Reservoir is releasing 738 cfs this morning, which is slightly lower than the flows from yesterday. With these lower flows a larger portion of the West Branch will be wadable. The best dry fly action has been on the East Branch and Main Stem with olives, iso’s and caddis being the most consistent hatches. Both the East Branch and the Main Stem are holding good water temperatures and excellent flows for wade fishermen.  Streamers have been dominating the West Branch over the past week with black and olive being the colors of choice in this off colored water.

The Delaware River Cluber: Upper Delaware River Report 9/18/10

The West Branch has come up today with the increased release and is at a good level for floating, and a little tough for wading certain spots.  Streamers fished well yesterday and today should too.  With sunny skies and a nice calm day today, there may be some insect activity throughout, or sometime during the day today as well.

Today’s weather looks good throughout the morning, getting into some cloudy skies and light rain by the afternoon, with T-Storms later in the evening.  Releases have been decreased over the past couple of days, but water levels are still very good for drift boat fishing and have become easier to wade.

The Delaware River Club: Upper Delaware River Report 9/14/10

The fishing has picked up throughout the entire Upper Delaware River system as of late.  Olives have been the predominant hatch on the West Branch and have been out in good numbers on both the East Branch and the Main Stem as well.  Iso’s and white fly spinners on the Main Stem have produced most of the action on those sections.  Streamer fishing has also been very productive with the off-color water conditions.  Temperatures are pretty good throughout, but with today’s weather being mostly sunny, this morning and later this evening will likely be the best times to be on the Main Stem, East Branch, and lower West Branch.  Temperatures on the rest of the West and the upper East should be most favorable.  High of 68 degrees today.
