Delaware River Report: October 6, 2022
The river flows are dropping this morning and the West branch looks good out front. There’s still a good amount of water in the feeder streams but they should be dropping throughout the day. There is a slight tint on the lower West Branch but it is definitely fishable. Yesterday looked like a streamer day but we’re sure some people found fish rising in the slow tailouts. Today will be much warmer hitting 73 degrees, sunny, with no wind. Small olives, Heptagenia, caddis, and a few Isonychias should cover most of what you see.

It rained off and on for most of yesterday with more falling overnight into this morning. The river flows are climbing and the feeder streams are definitely adding some water. The the river out front is off color so this may be a streamer day. Click on the river links below for the latest flow data. There were a lot of tiny olives on the water yesterday mixed with some Heptagenia and the oddball Isonychia. The fish were on the olives but the ones in the moving water were a little friendlier to bigger flies. The rain should stop early this afternoon. We’ll see 65 degrees with wind 5 – 10 mph from the North.

We woke up to some rain this morning. Total for the day should be around 1/2″. Some of that should soak into the ground and the feeder streams are relatively low so we shouldn’t see a huge affect today. If anything changes dramatically we’ll do a mid day update. The rivers are still low but people are wading and even floating some sections. We had decent olives mixed with a few Heptagenias yesterday afternoon and did have fish rising. Today looks like a good olive day with the air temp hitting 54 degrees and rain. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.

The flow at Stilesville is still very low at 106 cfs. It is okay for wading but floating is out of the question. River temps are in good shape due to the cooler weather. Most people nymphed yesterday but there were a few dry fly shots with small olives and Heptagenia. Running a dry dropper with an Isonychia could also be a good move today. We have good cloud cover but should not see any rain today. Wind will be a lot less today at 5 – 10 mph from the North.

The release from Cannonsville has been cut back and the flow at Stilesville is 110 cfs this morning. Not ideal. Water temps are fine and wading is the best option. Yesterday had some flushes of olives mixed with some Heptagenias. We did see a few Isonychias in the late afternoon. We’ll have clouds today with the air temp hitting 60 degrees. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the North. There is a very, very slight chance of rain.

Delaware River Report: October 1, 2022
Today looks like a great day to be on the water. We have some light rain falling that should total just over 1/10″. We have good cloud cover and light and variable wind. Hopefully that pushes the hatches a little earlier in the day. Small olives, Heptagenia, and a few Isonychias should cover most of the bases. Yesterday was similar with a bit more sun. Nymphing worked well early with the dry fly shots coming later in the day.

We’re coming off a cold night but we should begin to warm into the 60’s today. The wind was tough early yesterday but it did drop in the afternoon. Fall is definitely here so it’s still a lot of small blue wing olives, Heptagenia, some Cahills, and Isonychias. There are definitely caddis on the bushes so they’ll be on the water at some point. Wundergound is calling for light and variable wind today which is certainly an improvement. We’ll see a little sun but mostly cloud cover with a high of 64 degrees.

We had a brief afternoon rain storm but it wasn’t enough to affect the flows. There were decent olives mixed with a few Isonychias and Heptagenias yesterday making it a good day to be on the water. We’ll have more sunshine today with the air temp only hitting 57 degrees. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the North. So the bugs will hatch in the afternoon again but try to find a place with a little wind protection. Wunderground shows the wind dropping in the afternoon so that should help.

We had some thunderstorms pass by us yesterday but they missed us. The rivers are still dropping slowly from the runoff and everything is in good shape this morning, We’ve been seeing good mix of olives and Heptagenia when the wind isn’t blowing. Today looks like a good day to be on the water with the air temp hitting 61 degrees, cloud cover, and wind 5 – 10 mph from the North. We may see a shower in the afternoon but total rainfall should be less than 1/10″.

The weather was a bit unsettled yesterday with storms passing through and patches of sunshine. Most of the rain missed us so the rivers are in good shape this morning and still dropping slowly from the rain we had the other day. Small olives mixed with a few Isonychias and cahills are making up the bulk of the bugs. Some river sections have had decent Heptagenia hatches at times. Nymphing has worked early. If that’s not your thing a dry dropper combo in the riffles isn’t a bad idea. And it is time to have your caddis box with you. Today looks similar to yesterday with the potential for some scattered afternoon thunderstorms. Total rainfall should be negligible. Wind 5 – 10 mph from the South with the air temp hitting 63 degrees.

We had a bit of rain yesterday but the thunderstorms missed us. There is a minor bump in flows but overall it;s negligible and the rivers look and and are in good shape for wading and floating. There was a decent hatch of small olives. We’re seeing some Isonychias and cahills still. There are definitely caddis in the bushes. Yesterday was a nymphing day early with some dry fly fishing towards evening. Small blue wing olives mixed with a few Isonychias made up most of the hatch we saw. We’re starting off this morning with better cloud coverage and no wind. We should see some rain showers move in this morning and a possible thunderstorm this afternoon. Keep an eye on the radar for the thunderstorms but otherwise this sounds like a good morning to be on the water. Less than .25″ should fall today. The air temp will hit 63 degrees with 5 – 10 mph wind from the South. it certainly feels like Fall has arrived.
