Delaware River Report / Conditions September 17, 2021
The rivers are still running high but are beginning to drop slowly. The West Branch will drop a bit but will stay high with a release around 1,400 cfs from Cannonsville. The larger release is adding some color to the river but it is still fishable. Wading is not recommended. We found fish rising yesterday but most fish were landed on nymphs and streamers. The Beaverkill / Willowemoc will offer the first wadeable water. Today should be a mix of clouds and sun again with wind 5 – 10 mph from the South.

Some of the thunderstorms hit us last night and there is a lot of water moving through the system this morning. The West Branch at Hale Eddy is just under 2,000 cfs and is beginning to drop. The release is around 1,400 so the flow will drop a bit today but it will stay high. There is some color to the water but it is fishable. Wading is not recommended. There is a lot of water coming in from the feeders downstream of the gauge. Streamers worked yesterday in the rain along with some action on wet flies. Today will be much cooler with some clouds and sunshine mixed. 74 degrees with light and variable winds.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 15, 2021
The release from Cannonsville was increased and the flow at Stilesville is 1,330 and climbing this morning. So far we’ve had a few showers but not enough to affect the river conditions. Wunderground shows around 1/2″ of rain today mainly from thunderstorms. Wading will be tough without the rain so definitely keep a close eye on the river gauges below. The increased release on the West Branch may increase the tint of the water but it will be fishable. Streamers may be a good option- especially if we get hit with the rain. Otherwise olives and a few Heptagenia. There have been ants out there in some form almost every day.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 14, 2021
Yesterday fished well for us overall with a mix of olives and small flying ants. There were a few Isonychias and cahills in the mix but the olives have been the main hatch for a while now. Thy ranged from size 18 to 26. A few fish wanted the tiny flies but overall you can get away with an #18. Nymphing or swinging wets were also productive before the hatch.
We have a few thunderstorms moving though the area this morning. The total rainfall should be under 1/4″ today. Check the gauges below for the latest flow data just to be sure. A little rain and good cloud cover should make decent fishing conditions today. 81 degrees and wind 5 – 10 mph from the South
If the rain impacts the flows significantly we’ll do a mid day blog update.

We did have good clouds yesterday with just a few breaks of sun. Olives, a lot of tiny flying ants, and a few Isonychias made up most of what we saw on the water. Nymphing and streamers worked early but there was some dry fly action in the afternoon / evening. Today will have a bit more sunshine but the fishing should be the same. Wind 5 – 10 mph from the North. The rain missed us so the flows are pretty much the same as yesterday. The West Branch has that light Fall tint it gets but it doesn’t bother the fish or bugs.

The release from Cannonsville remains around 900 cfs this morning. There is a tint in the water likely form the release. It is not enough to affect the fishing. We should have cloud cover this afternoon with a chance of a little rain overnight. The amount of precip should be negligible. Streamers early and then nymphs or wet flies until the bugs come. We’re mostly seeing olives with a few size #18 and a lot of #22 – 24 Pseudos. We still have some flying ants on the water. You will see an odd Isonychia and cahill and the fish will still eat them.

Delaware River Report / Conditions September 11, 2021
The daytime wind made yesterday tough. Early it was definitely a nymphing / wet fly kind of day. A few people were throwing streamers. The wind dropped around 6 and there was a decent hatch of olives offering some shots at dry fly fish. The hatch ended a bit earlier than usual as the air temp dropped towards dark. The wind will be kinder today at 5 – 10 mph from the South. 74 degrees with mostly sunshine. The release from Cannonsville has been increased and the flow at Stilesville is just under 1,000 cfs as of the 4:15 am update. Check the gauge links below for the latest flows.

Yesterday’s cloud cover helped push the bugs and we did see Pseudos earlier in the afternoon. Towards dark there were some Heptagenias and flying ants mixed in as well. It was a good evening of dry fly fishing. Before the evening it was spottier on top so most people nymphed or were swinging wets. There were a few spots they were eating on top early so if you see bugs and no fish eating don’t be afraid to move. Today will be 68 degrees with more sunshine. wind 10 – 15 mph from the North.

We had some rain overnight but not enough to affect the West Branch. The flow at Hale Eddy only rose 50 cfs and has leveled off. The WB is looking pretty much the same as yesterday. The Beaverkill and East Branch have more runoff and are up quite a bit. Check the flow links below for the latest information. We have good cloud cover this morning with a slight chance of rain. Wind will be negligible. Hopefully that pushes the olives earlier in the day.

Yesterday was another Sunday but there were more olives hatching by late afternoon than we saw on Monday. There were a few cahills and Heptagenias in the evening too. Nymphing was the best bet during the day. Nymphs that match the size of the predominant insects seem to be working best. Today could be totally different. We should see decent cloud cover early with the potential of afternoon thunderstorms. Hopefully that pushes the olives and Isonychias early

We had a brief rain shower yesterday afternoon but otherwise was a mix of sun and wind. Nymphing was the best option during the day. Blind casting isonychias or cahills was the other option. The olives came as the sun dropped and there were fish eating them. Plus a few Heptagenias. Today is going to be 75 degrees with “plentiful” sunshine. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South. It will probably fish a lot like yesterday.

Yesterday looked like the perfect olive day and it delivered. Some people found some fish on Isonychias, some people found them with streamers and nymphs, everyone found them on olive. Great cloud over with periods of light rain made perfect conditions. Today should be cloudy with a chance of an afternoon shower. We may see a bot of sunshine poke through too.
