Delaware River Report / Conditions June 30, 2021

The release from Cannonsville was increased for a brief time overnight.  The flow is already dropping at hale Eddy this morning and will likely settle where it’s been around 530 cfs.  We had some rain overnight but most of the water soaked right into the ground.  We expect that to happen with most of the rain today.  Sulphurs, olives, and a few Isonychias are hatching mid day in the colder water.  There are some cahills / Stenocrons hatching too so #14 yellow mayflies patterns are still producing fish.  Hopefully we get some rain that pushes the bugs earlier on the mid West Branch.  If it misses us the hatches will probably come as the sun drops.  The air temp cools down to the high 70’s tomorrow but today we’ll be in the high 80’s.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 29, 2021

The Cannonsville release was bumped and dropped back overnight to send a bit of cold water down the mainstem. The flow is already dropping and should end up around 550 cfs (where we were yesterday).  There is also a slight increase in flow at Harvard this morning.  The tailwater temps stayed fine despite the heat yesterday.  Today will start off sunny with a chance of some afternoon storms.  We actually have a decent chance of rain for the next few days.  The freestones definitely need the water so hopefully Wunderground is correct.  There are some sulphurs hatching on the upper river sections during the day.  The bugs happened as the sun dropped on the mid to lower West.  That timing could shift earlier if we really get some rain.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 28, 2021

The release from Cannonsville was increased to almost 790 cfs late yesterday.  This was likely  done to meet the water temp requirements on the Mainstem.  It was a brief pulse so the flow is already dropping back on the upper West Branch.  It will probably level out where we’ve been around 500 cfs.  Today will be another hot one with a mix of clouds and sunshine. Wind 5 – 10 from the South.  The coldest water will be the best bet for afternoon hatches.  Nymphing or blind casting the riffles could pay off on the other river sections.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 27, 2021

The release from Cannonsville was increased by 30 cfs.  Not enough to change anything on the river today as far as fishing but every drop of cold water helps. The air temp will be close to 90 today with wind 10 – 15 mph from the South.  We’ll have a good amount of sunshine.  The best shot at daytime dry fly action will be in the areas with the colder water.  Yesterday seemed to be spotty but fished well overall.  Patience seemed to pay off.  Most of the fish came on isonychia emergers and sulphurs.  Nymphing worked well early.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 26, 2021

We have good cloud cover this morning may even see a stray thunderstorm. Wind will be 10 – 15 from the South.  so it definitely looks better than many of the sunny days we’ve been dealing with lately.  Hopefullythe clouds push some olives along with the sulphurs and cahills a little earlier in the day.  Nymphing worked well yesterday before the hatches and should be a good bet again today.  Isonychias and cahills are still producing in some riffles.

The Lower East Branch, Mainstem, and Beaverkill at Cooks Falls all peaked over or just under 70 degrees yesterday.   It’s time to give those rivers a break and fish cold water areas.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 25, 2021

People found fish yesterday afternoon despite the sunshine.  There was a light mix of olives, sulphurs, cahills, and a few isonychias.  The wind seemed to be the main issue during the day but it dropped back in the evening.  We’re seeing a few isonychias around and they are eating the dries so try swinging or hand twisting in larger nymphs or wet flies if you can’t get them on top.

Today should look a lot like yesterday with a mix of sun and clouds.  Wind 5 – 10 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 24, 2021

Wunderground describes today as having “plentiful sunshine” Which genreally means the best bet for rising fish in the middle of the day will be in the coldest water.  Sulphurs, olives, and some isonychias.  The same bugs should be around early and late on the other river sections.  Plus the Dark Blue Sedges and tan caddis in the evening.  Blind casting cahills and isonychias in broken water is still a decent option during the day.  Swinging larger wets could produce some fish during the day since the Isonychia hatch seems to be getting better.  Try to find areas that get shade early in the afternoon. 77 degrees, sunny, with wind 10 – 15 from the South.  The Beaverkill, lower East Branch, and Upper Mainstem water temps held on yesterday but will probably rise quickly today when the sun beats on the exposed rocks.  Check the temps with a thermometer on those rivers.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 23, 2021

We’re coming off a very cold night so the river temps dropped significantly. Everything is starting off in good shape this morning.  The Main, Beaverkill, and lower East all look good for a change.  Yesterday was damp, chilly, and a little windy – perfect for olives.  People reported good numbers of olives mixed with some sulphurs and Isonychias.  There were a Pseudos on the water but the fish were happy with larger olives and the Isonychias. Today looks warmer with a bit more sunshine.  We should hit 71 degrees. Wind will be 5 – 10 from the North.

Some of the storms did hit us last night.  The rain came down pretty hard before dark but the most of it soaked into the ground.  The West Branch looks fine this morning and the flow hasn’t increased.  There is a slight bump in flow on the Beaverkill and East Branch.  We woke up to a little more rain falling but that should clear up by the afternoon.  The air temp will stay in the 60’s and wind will be 10 – 15 from the North.

The Lower East Branch, Mainstem, and Beaverkill at Cooks Falls all peaked over 70 degrees yesterday and are starting of hot today.   It’s time to give those rivers a break and fish cold water areas.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 21, 2021

The thunderstorms never materialized yesterday afternoon so the river flows are starting off about the same as yesterday.  we’ll be a bit warmer today in the high 80’s but that should bring a better chance of storms today.  It looks like we may get just under 1/4″ if they don’t track south of us.  Wind will be 10 – 15 from the South.  The best dry fly action was as the sun dropped but people did catch fish mid day in the sun too.  Sulphurs, olives, cahills, and some isonychias will cover the mayflies.  We cool back down into the 60’s tomorrow.  The 10 day forecast shows some decent rain towards the weekend.

The Lower East Branch, Mainstem, and Beaverkill at Cooks Falls all peaked over or just under 70 degrees yesterday.   It’s time to give those rivers a break and fish cold water areas.

Delaware River Report / Conditions June 20, 2021

We had some rain in the evening but it soaked into the ground and the river flows are basically where they were yesterday morning.  Today will be mostly cl0udy with a high of 81 degrees.  Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South.  According to Wunderground there is a 30% chance of some thunderstorms developing in the afternoon.  Most of those tend to slide South of us so we’ll see.  The forecasted rainfall is negligible.  We are still mainly fishing sulphurs, olives, and cahills but the isonychias seem to be picking up.  Blind casting in the riffles worked yesterday.

The Lower East Branch, Mainstem, and Beaverkill at Cooks Falls all peaked over or just under 70 degrees yesterday. They are starting off warmer today and will peak higher due to the sunshine.  It’s time to give those rivers a break and fish cold water areas.

We had just enough rain overnight to knock the dust down on the dirt roads but no enough to bump the river flows.  The clouds stuck around most of the afternoon and some decent fish were landed.  Sulphurs and cahills seemed to land most of the fish with a few on olives.  Today we’ll have a bit more sun with a slight chance of an afternoon thunderstorm.  The air temp will hit 84 degrees with wind 5 – 10 mph from the West.  Nymphing, swinging wets, and blind casting isonychias and cahills in the riffles are all good bets.  The sulphurs have been coming in the evening but may shift earlier if we get an afternoon thunderstorm.
